Live Chat Is Up!!!

the Live Chat feature has been turned on!

You will see the link for it at the very top of the pages on the BHUZ side of the site.

To get there from the Forum, scroll all the way down to the bottom navigation bar and right click on BHUZ. Open it in a new tab or window if you still want to have access to the Forum. Take a look at the very top of the page and click on Live Chat. The link appears on the Welcome page.

Go ahead and just bumble around it for a while and post your questions in this thread. I don't have any directions for it, and won't be able to answer questions, but perhaps some members will have answers. There is an options panel wihere you can change the sounds, and a place to select names of new chat rooms, make them public or private. It looks easy to get around in. Have fun!

That sounds like a very sensible suggestion. However, you do need to remember that bhuzzers are all over the world, so if you schedule a fascinating chat session for *taking a random example* 8pm California time, some people will be at work or in bed at that time.

I've never participated in a chat room before, but it seems like it's a little awkward getting it started. For one thing, you go in there blind, not knowing who might be there and what there will be to talk about. How would it be to have a place on the forum to post scheduled chats, with a topic, a moderator, and a time frame, say, between the hours of xx:xx and xx:xx pm, Greenwich mean time? (Though I have to admit, I'd have to wrack my brain trying to figure out what time it would be here in California... perhaps the person proposing the discussion gets to use their own time based on their own time zone...?

People could even RSVP in advance to say "I plan to be there" so there could be some clue as to who will be chatting and what the topic of the discussion will be ( or at least what it will start out as...) Any chance something like that could work?

Just a thought from a complete chat-room ignoramus....

I kind of like the idea of going in "blind". You might find someone you know well, or it might be someone you don't know at all. The conversations that I've had with people I don't know have been interesting & unexpected!

Every time I get in, someone else is going out. When someone tries to talk to me, my IE closes all tabs. IS my firewall/anti virus software causing this? Did anyone else have the same problem?

I have to say, it's kind of a novelty to know people are chatting in real time, but it seems pretty hard to talk about anything substantial in a chat room. It's just a bunch of snippets of shallow conversation... am I missing something?

No, I agree, Lilla. I think having a scheduled chat on a particular topic might be the thing to try.
