Dina arrested for dancing (old story from 2006)

This is an old news story from November 2006, but I just stumbled upon it today when googling for something else:

Dina was apparently arrested for dancing around publicly out of happiness at the premiere of a movie she was in.

This story doesn't come out and say it, but another article (or maybe it was a blog) I stumbled upon in my googling said that she was blamed for providing the stimulus for that mass sexual harassment incident that occurred in Egypt around that time. (Ie, the stampede of young men at the eid who grabbed/groped young women in hijjab.)

Blaming Dina on the riots is complete bullshit. The Egyptian authorities will use anything as a scapegoat to draw attention away from actual problems of the country. I read this article a while back but I also heard that Dina didn't even dance but in fact she was just greeting people at the front.

I heard sukkar banat was a great movie. I'm hoping to watch it soooon. Albawaba always wants to make things sound so scandalous. When I met Dina, I was under the impression that she was very liberal minded and was familiar with peoples with alternative lifestyles.

I watched this film last week and really liked it. Netflix has it. Search for "Sukkar Banat" or "Caramel".

That was a lovely movie. I liked the way that Rima's being a lesbian wasn't really a big deal in the film, it was just a social fact. I have a hard time picturing Dina as Rema, though. The salon owner, definitely!

Dina dress and styled as Rema would be hard to believe - 'cause I've only ever seen her as Dina. (Kind of like Cary Grant in "Father Goose". You have to get over seeing him all sloppy. Still looooove him in that movie, though. Or any movie, for that matter.)
