Jillina is an awesome dancer...
...but some of her costumes are totally whack.
like this one for example
http://www.youtube.com/v/Xj7e7YdA_9g
anyone else think that the pink snake is a tad bit obscene?
http://www.youtube.com/v/A8ph7zmMza8
and those pants are totally weird.

We can't see them, but I know exactly which ones you're talking about - the two she wears on the BDSS video where they dance in the room on all those carpets and there's incense swirling in the air. A lot of those costumes were a little fugly.

Re: Jillina is an awesome dancer...
Yep, I agree.
JIllina is a phonominal dancer, in my opinion, but some of her costumes are a bit too busy and crazy for me. I bet some divas would pay thousands of dollars for something similar, though!
I personally like the costume to be a little subtler. Is the girl wearing the costume, or the costume wearing the girl? LOL!

I actually like the second costume. I don't particularly like the pants, but I'd love it if it was a skirt. The top is really cute!

Re: Jillina is an awesome dancer...
personally, i loooooooove pants costumes(sooo full of attitude), but that one seemed..............odd........kinda busy, un-focused, like 'do i wanna be a skirt, do i wanna be pants, i got it! let's do both, how innovative...........'
even in pants costumes i prefer more streamlined, leaving the cool detail on the bra and belt/hip area...................pants make all legs look long and sleek if designed right, but that costume just shortened her and made it look somewhat disjointed

Re: Jillina is an awesome dancer...
I think she's developed good taste in costumes. That video is several years old now. She has amazing costumes in the more recent videos and BDSS shows. Those two were awful though, I couldn't watch the dancing because they were too distracting for me.

Re: Jillina is an awesome dancer...
While I'm not always wild about the results, I have always admired Jillina's willingness to take a risk and do something totally outside of the costuming box! To me it shows creativity and a sense of humour (ie. the snake).

The other one is a bit busy for my taste, but as someone else said,Jillina`s costume collection has hugely improved thru the years.
Having vented about her costumes, have to say that Jillina is my favorite American bellydancer,Egyptian style.

I kind of like the pants. They remind me of those "Endless wave" pants except busier

Yeah, I have to say one of my least favorite costumes I've seen was the Dina one with the big hand prints on her breasts.

Re: Jillina is an awesome dancer...
the Pink Snake and Peanut Butter Princess are two of my favorite costumes. i think Pink Snake is fun and light and humorous, and the Princess is a work of art. it's so textured, almost sculptural, and its detail is stunning.

Re: Jillina is an awesome dancer...
I love the pink snake. And I love that Jillina designed something that only she can get away with! If you didn't have her combination of virtuosity and playfulness, you'd be laughed off the stage. But for me, on her, it works.
There have been heated conversations about that reptile for years now. Interesting that people are still talking about it!

Re: Jillina is an awesome dancer...
When I see Jillina's early costumes (the ones on the first BDSS DVD), they remind me of Nagwa Fouad. Nagwa always tried to wear something very different. Some people liked her costumes, some people didn't, but they talked about them -- and that made Nagwa more widely recognized. (Especially that sea creatures costume!)
Lots of people have talked about Jillina's pink snake costume (as we're doing now, years later) and I think Jillina got a lot more name recognition because of that. If she had worn a pink Pharaonics for that drum solo, maybe she wouldn't be as well known now. So whether you like her funky early costumes or not, I think she was smart to wear them....
