Yes, you are right. What a shame. I love Randa but if she becomes like Dina then our love affair is over.
I am sure she will be crying buckets when she hears.

I like Dina too and I really don't mind the similarities. They are both wonderful dancers.

Very energetic! I love the way the band member catches them in mid-air when she tosses them. And did you guys notice how the riq (or duff, can't tell which it is) accents every little hip movement that she is doing. That is a great band.

Re: Another new clip! Randa Kamel with Isis Wings
Are you guys talking about the strange, stiff-legged sort of drunken Frankenstein move around 1:57 or so? I hope not too many people try to copy that one, it would be very hard to pull off unless you had supreme confidence in what you were doing.
edited to add: He he, just had a thought. I doubt it, but what if it was one of those, "oops, I made a mistake, better repeat that on the other side so people won't think I messed up" moves. Then she kept it in because people liked it or something.
Sorry, strange mind at work here.

I love the way the drummer accents her movements during the taxim, too. That is so cool. I am going to steal that idea for my band. It gives the flowing quality of taxim plus the sharpness of the drum, I like that!

Call me crazy...but I think that was a bit of catty tounge in cheek for Randa...it was so deliberate and cartoon like...

Re: Another new clip! Randa Kamel with Isis Wings
I just realized that the taxim music is in this clip of her workshop.

Re: Another new clip! Randa Kamel with Isis Wings
When you see her in real life-she is very much herself. On video its easier to spot and analyse moves because there is no atmosphere and there is a detachment from the performance. No doubt Dina has inspired all the modern Egyptian dancers to some extent. I like watching both of them but they are very different, the pace and personality of their dancing is different and they do very different shows.

Re: Another new clip! Randa Kamel with Isis Wings
Hi candi,
I have seen Randa dance live many many times but never saw anything like that. Where did the windmill arms come from?
I have also seen Dina and really not a fan. Randa was very different from her but not looking at this particular vid. Is she closing the Gap? I really hope not.
I assume is is very recent? I last saw her dance In January.

Thanks for posting these clips!!
I saw both Dina and Randa Dance this weekend and although at times Randa did have some Dina influence Randa still has her own style!!
Both are awesome in different ways IMO!

I agree Ms. Mouse!!! Love to watch both of them . . . never going to be able to do what they do, but certainly admire what they can do.

Re: Recent Randa clip+ Randa Kamel with Isis Wings
I'm a Randa fan, but I showed a Randa performance video to a friend, and she said she couldn't watch it anymore, said her style of belly dance was just too "bump and grind." I was surprised. I could imagine someone saying they don't like Randa because she's too modern, or too forceful, but I never would have thought that. Does anyone else see it?

I find that in person when Dina does that move it seems to work. to me it says "oh my how did i get here, i'm a good girl and i don't mean to be dancing like this," she doesn't come off looking drunk to me, maybe tipsy. but Randa is so powerful that when she does it, it seems drunk to me.
