Yes but I want to know about this Boots stuff - I keep hearing my UK friends rave about it. What's in this stuff and can we buy a barrel ??

ps: you know what I mean about the stomach/body skin, it's the difference between the knee caps of a sixteen year old and a sixty year old - just not quite the same, ummm??, density, or something

Gwoofer -

I swear by Boots No. 7 which I discovered here on bhuz through our U.K. friends. I think it is making a huge difference in my skin quality - more taut for sure and softer. People are surprised by my age (which isn't that old at near 47 but still....) and lately I'm definitely crediting it to Boots which is diminishing the lines around my mouth and eyes.

Maybe I just feel younger? I dunno. I think it's helping. I'm using Refine & Rewind, Daily Moisturizer and the Lifting & Firming night cream.

You can buy it all at Target for crazy reasonable prices.

I even think it is easier to hide your age when you are a dancer. People have so much to concentrate on than looking at your skin quality. If you are just talking to the audience in daylight they see your age much better than when you are moving.

I am always curious about the age of famous dancers because it gives me
trust on that I can continue dancing forever whatever my age. look at Suhair Zaki, she is 61 and Nagwa Fouad,66 (I am counting from this article
http://www.saudiaramcoworld.com/issu....du.ventre.htm
from year 1971, very interesting!)

Back to Asmahan, I always thought she is a bit older, but it is not her age that bothers me, it is her hair and that she is always touchingg herself. But I have to come to your event Mandy to see her for real. I am not after these kind of show dresses and performances either, but they are what she prefers and when I hear so many people saying WOW I need to see it myself, too.

Great article! I think you certainly have a point that the moments in which you are being watched make all the difference.

You know, I'z thinking, about the touching thing. That bugs a lot of people but I have to admit when I'm really into it I just naturally get into the sensuality of touching hair and skin, not to the point of lasciviousness but it seems a natural thing to do.

I also think that people hear a number regarding age and have a preconceived notion of what that looks like (remember Gloria Steinam ). I tend to expect people to look young as long as they are healthy so I'm rarely surprised at hearing the age.

No matter, she looks wonderful

In terms of the make up, I actually think that she would look better in different make up - the kind he wears is actually quite harsh looking.

No way is Asmahan in her 50s - no way, Jose! I really think someone got the math wrong.

She is from South America isn't she? I've got to say, I met a woman from Chile about 3 months ago and I nearly fell down when she told me her age...seems to be the Latinos age VERY VERY well if I can go by that lady.

I think Asmahan is one of the dancers who prove the fact that to have that X factor (if you like) a personality has to be added to technique and beauty to take a dancer to the top which means endearing her /him to their audience.
A cold beautiful technically perfect dancer will never do that. One less perfect with an attractive/charming/unique/quirky personality stamped over their dance will capture us anyday.
Folks always said Maria Callas was never the top as far as technique for Opera buffs but she was a good actress, great looking and developed a cult status which still pulls fans today. Which is why we'll always have a soft spot for a performer who gives something extra of herself. Now that may or may not be the truth of the matter..look at all those depressive funny men!

Weeee... Asmahan teach me baladi but I'm just a tad scared

Yes, Ashaman is from Argentina originally and I believe she has been in Egypt dancing and living full time for at least 14/15 years.

Yes, Asmahan is from Argentina but her parents are Spanish.
Trust me she is about 50, I have looked at her dance CV about 10 pages of it.
She studied ballet from 6 years old & flamenco from 14 years old.
Then she encountered belly dancing at 16 on a trip with the flamenco academy. She studied 7 years for BA in fashion design. She's danced at all the top places & hotels to dance at in Cairo including Ahlan sahlan festival & the Nile group. Asmahan has danced for royalty, at many top society weddings & in Paris for Omar Sherif to name a few. She appeared on TV many times & the Egyptian loves her.
Asmahan is still performing today in Cairo on the same boat that Randa dances at.
Asmahan got the right to be a diva but she is not & we are so lucky to have her come to the UK in October for JoY.
