But some of those comments were pretty bitchy, like expoding boobs. Look that is how the Egyptians wear them , dears ,with pride. You got nice boobs, you flash 'em proud and high. It may frighten us but not them.

And it is upsetting when you have seen this lady in supreme action and met her for the truly nice and professional woman she is, to see silly childish comments being made.
There are better ways to say you don't like a costume
ie. I much prefer full length skirt, the mystery of the movement.
Those bras don't look very comfortable etc etc. Boring I know but much less likely to spur those of us to comment and who seem to understand the dancers and trends from over there a little better. It shows!

to get back on focusing on Randa's dancing, here's a clip of Randa Performing in march (same night that I took the pictures). I uploaded the original quicktime file so you can see it in high-res.

<But some of those comments were pretty bitchy, like expoding boobs.>

I've said the same comment on the Sahar Okasha costumes thread, and if any dancer wears them this way,is still "exploding boobs" no matter how good her dancing is.By the way,i've read other worse comments on this same thing.

Why does any kind of negative comment about anyone equate hate and jealousy? Give me a frikkin break.

No, not jealous. Would not want Randa's life. Great dancer. Bad costumes. Would love to see her in person. Don't really care about costumes once dancing starts, but that doesn't mean I'm blind. And no, I'm not stupid about trends in Egypt - I just don't happen to care for some of them. Can appreciate dancing without becoming a fawning-never-can-do-wrong fan.

And vavoom body,i repeat, but "exploding boobs" are what anybody will first notice when watching her dance.

Gonna disagree. Most of her regular audience probably expects costumes like that. They aren't going to be hung up on the "exploding boob" effect.

What most western audiences, lwhich I assume counts for most of us, are going to notice is, yeah, heaved high breasts.

I think that Bhuzzers, for the most part, share a certain (perhaps conservative) range of what we find to be acceptable costume fitting and styles. Vocal Bhuzzers don't strike me as habouring particularly radical costume tastes. I think that if you polled us, yeah, we'd have doubts about any Western dancer dancing for a western crowd in those costumes.

No one is saying that those are all lovely costumes that they'd kill to wear. I think we're on the same general page about how we feel about certain trends in Egyptian costumes.

But this is a fan forum and we're focused on a performer's stretch marks, if she might be pregnant, if she looks like a stuffed sausage, is it excessive body glitter or is she that sweaty, did the costume fit at one point and she gained weight or is she just oblivious......?

I bet we'd scorn any member of the GP who made similar comments about any of our fellow dancers if we found their performance to be lovely. We'd think that they just didn't get it...or we'd internalize some of the comments and wonder more about our own bodies.

yes, that's right - it's all about us not being open minded or having "true" knowledge and understanding.

Maybe this might be the reason why i find fan forums or groups kinda boring since fans expect all praise and kiss-kiss among posters....yawnnnnnn

Totally unrealistic!

What Dani said. (<-- how many times have I said that in threads now?) ;)

That being said, I EXPECT top-of-the-heap dancers to be outrageous in what they wear. It's just part and parcel of the whole image, you know? I think Nour is probably the exception in that her costumes are just simple and feminine and pretty without giving you that OHMYGODWHATISSHEWEARING?? reaction. I adore, adore, ADORE Dina, but a lot of her costumes are hideous. But it only makes me love her more for her over-the-topness. :)

Oh, and FWIW, I wasn't sold on Randa in the old footage I saw, but I saw the Farha video recently and WOW, that woman is incredible. What amazing power! She makes me believe in that whole ectomorph/esomorph or whatever body profiling, because she is so obviously muscular and powerful from the top of her head to the tips of her toes, and she uses it really, really well.

Gah - one more thing before I get in the shower.

I think the quality of video can make all the difference in whether you "get" a dancer or not. Dina is one of my absolute favorite dancers, but the first video I saw of her was so choppy and crappy that I couldn't get a good sense of what she was doing, and had a "what the heck is all the hubbub about?" reaction. Then I saw a well-shot video, and WOW. Makes a helluva lot of difference.

Oh, I've made this mistake before, bringing a 'discussion' expectation into a fan forum. Sorry, I don't always look at the topic heading. I try to stay out of fan forums unless I'm a diehard fan of the person in question.

The new Randa clip is also just lovely!

Lili I don't have the budge to buy a video at the moment (OK, I don't have the budget to buy a cheeseburger at the moment) but I'll be in touch when the time comes!

okay

Gee, do you suppose the fan forum then will start a new trend in threads and topic sections staying "on topic" with no extra chit chat, sidebars, etc.? I say it's fairly impossible but whatever. Bye bye.

I guess things don't come across over the internet as they are intended to.
Actually Khadife, my comment about her implants possibly bursting from squeezing or handling them too much didn't have a bit of bitchiness in it. I'm not a bitchy person by nature. I'm sorry you interpreted it that way.
My mother's implants DID burst as a matter of fact. She had her breasts done in the early 70's when it was a fairly new procedure still, and wore them proudly for many years, until the mid 80's when they burst. They began to leak and completely deflated. First one, then the other. Fortunately they were saline solution and not silicone.
She's had to have them replaced twice. Once again with saline solution implants, which left a ripply effect common to menopausal women who no longer produce as much estrogen, and then with silicone in order to diminish the ripply look.
So, no..bursting breast implants isn't a far fetched notion and I wondered if squeezing them or hiking them up so much might affect them negatively in the long run.

Regards
Priscilla

Of course costuming is important and professional dancers have to make an impression. So they take a chance at times.
I dare say there are some trends I am not so happy with but tastes differ for instance I think Randa, wether or not I appreciate her skill, mostly looks ab fab, my dears. I love her figure.By the way they are hers! It's perfect as far as I am concerned. She has a great shape but then I am not of the same generation as most Bhuzzers who see a different ideal. Sorry I am biased another way when I see "Posh " ( and I actually love her style!) I just want to give her pies. Many of you might give away a butt*ck or two to achieve what she and her ilk do!
And I am NOT jealous of the slim but I admit I am jealous of youth and sad to have got on a boat too late and jealous of talent and time. But it's more a regret than a steaming green pile of jealousy so I will sit and gently envy Randa her beauty and talent and her costumes!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of you may think Randa's costumes suck but I love from above :
the navy/ white, the lavendar, the red, the pink, the saidi "eye", the gold and most of all the orange. Not much there I didn't really!

So I am talking about the costumes and not just 'cos I love the woman.

Of course we all might want to pass a few negative points about now and then about dancer, that's human nature but there are ways of doing it!
And as for being bitchy...oh I can do that but only under certain circumstances and I think we all can..men included<GRIN>

Mekyria: thanks for posting the pics. Do you happen to have more of Soraya? I'd be interesting in seeing them. Love her Sahar costumes!!

The "exploding boob" look and the "teeny-tiny costumes" is the current trend in Egypt right now. All the dancers are sporting this look, including but not limited to, Soraya, Nancy, Fatima, Randa, Dina. So I would say that she is just wearing the costumes according to the current trend. In 2001, 2002, 2003, she wasn't sporting this look as it wasn't fashionable or really prominent at the time. Also, Sahar hadn't gone public with her designs until 2005 and I'm sure that Sahar's avant-gard costumes helped foster this trend.
This is not meant as an insult or a compliment just stating the fashion trend as I currently see it.
