I am always confused by the facial expressions that are shown in the old movies when people are watching belly dancers: they range from dumbfounded, to confused, to slightly amused yet suspicious, to something that looks like "someone just poked me with a stick!".... what's that all about?

I love this dance scene. I have the movie it's from, Son of Sinbad, on video. This movie is a constant parade of women in glamorous harem fantasy costumes. It was made by Howard Hughes' production company, and Hughes used it as an excuse to indulge his desire to see a lot of scantily-clad beautiful women gathered together.
The scene in your link is the only "belly dance" scene in the movie, but there are several other scenes of other types of dance such as modern dance.

Is she also the dancer in the Charlton Heston film Khartoum?
there is also a film called the Crusaders featuring dancers and she looks to be one of those. Oh yea, bedlah toting dancers at the turn of the 12th and 13th century
Still that's Hollywood for ya! All good fun!Samia wears one in the Valley of Kings...getting nearer!

I've never seen Nejla dance before! Thank you so much for posting that!
Also - I agree, Liz... our man Vincent was a bit of a cracker! Loved the bit when he's surprised by his own dancing shoulder.

I'd never seen Nejla dance before watching this clip either, but I remembered reading about her being on the cover of "Port Said" in "Snake Hips."
She is very good! :)
And I agree...Vincent Price was pretty stinkin hot! ;) Then again, I thought he was pretty handsome as an old man too. :)

I've always been in awe of her beauty (and cuteness) in her photos. It's lovely to see her dance. Thanks for posting.

Ironically, Lili St. Cyr was in another dancing scene in this same movie. I didn't know the man was Vincent Price. I'd been wracking my brain trying to figure out who that was.
