All Hail Jim Boz!!!!
Yesterday I got to attend the Jim Boz workshop at Rakkasah!! I was the first time I had been to a workshop with him and he rocked!!! The two people from my troop who went with me had a blast. It didn't matter if you had been dancing two months or 20 years, there was something to learn from him and you got to laugh your a** off doing it!!!! Bellydancing has changed forever now that I have been Bozified!!!!!

Did you get a "Bozified" button? I would love for him to put his "In Boz We Trust" button on a tee-shirt. Would definitely buy that one!

Wahhh! I'm jealous- he'd run out of them by the time I got to the t-shirt table, when he was here.

If Boz is reading this, I want to thank him big time. Last weekend I performed at Festival on the Nile and got myself so pumped up with energy that when I got on stage one foot was moving in the future while the other was moving in present tense. I was having what Jim calls an "adreneline induced temporal anomaly" and remembered his words about finding the bliss point. And it worked! My feet got their tenses right and I settled in to enjoy the performance. Thank you, Dr. Boz!!!

This weekend was my first experience with Jim Boz and the workshop was one of the most memorable hours and a half I've spent with a dance teacher. In a room over over 50 people, he got across his concepts so clearly that I remembered the entire sequence later that day when I ended up dancing during open-floor to a veil song without a veil. I loved the concept of "sequence of textures", as it's so much more useful than a combination or choreography. And his personality is great. He reminds me a lot of a friend of mine.
I really hope we can get him to Boston soon but either way I'll go to Rakassah again - Rakassah was such a good thing for my dancing, I can tell already. I feel inspired again.

Aw man! I regret to say I don't think I can go to the Boz workshop now! My mom broke her leg (her knee AND her heel) last weekend and my dad needs a break this weekend from taking care of her. She's totally immobile right now and needs our help :-(

I regret to say that I slept through his workshop this weekend. I'm blaming my troupe -- they're the ones who made me stay up late and party the night before!
He is a great teacher, though. I like him a lot as a performer, but I think he's even better as a teacher. And lotsa fun too!!

This weekend will be the first time I've met him or taken workshops from him. I'm excited and having some 'omgomgomg' moments.

I have to send big thanks and appreciation out to Jim Boz, because this weekend he taught me three fantastic workshops. They were all fascinating, technical, juicy, inspiring, hilarious, and very well crafted! He worked on nuance, texture, technique, and crafted combos that fit the music SOOO beautifully. I loved every minute of it.
And, for reasons completely beyond my comprehension, I was the only workshop participant. I'd driven 2 1/2 hours from Seattle to Vancouver, WA, and that beatific belly dancer Boz taught me all seven hours of workshop with full force and vigor. Amazing! I will forever be a fan!!!

Wow, how strange no one else showed up. But a private workshop....how wonderful that would have been!

DANG!!!! that is dedication alright, on any teacher's part but esp a workshop. I guess you really lucked out.
I still want Jim to do an instructional DVD so I can keep him in my house.

There was a huge Unmata show and workshop event in Seattle that weekend. There seems to be some kind of event every weekend in Seattle, and Vancouver is 2 1/2 hours away from us, so I think that was the big conflict for a lot of people. Plus, it seems that home town folks don't always appreciate the talent that grows in their own backyards. Whatever the fluke, it felt like a gift from the universe, and from Boz and Zaina (who hosted it) for carrying through with the plan!
Oooh, and he taught a GREAT zill workshop (this spoken by a professional violinist). I bought his new monster $55 Jim Boz professional zills, and I love them. They have gorgeous tone, and he showed me how to modulate the sound and actually get more dynamic range (and not by just the ticks and claps I'd used before for different sound qualities). Fabulous. So, big plug for his workshops...
