I love Orit! She's definately one of my favorite dancers because I feel she has a good musicality and, for her, the kicks work well.

I love love LOVE her!
I was teaching my partner how to tell fantastic dancing from horrible dancing - Orit was the fantastic example. She's so expressive, soft yet strong, playful; she seems to balance the whole internal experience with audience and musician interaction. She's amazing to me.

Orit just gave some workshops here in the Netherlands....wonderful!
I've become an extremely "critical consumer" regarding workshops, having had some bad experiences from big names....but Orit delivered and more.

Orit is even better in person. She has tons of energy! Even when she was sick, she was teaching her workshops full-speed.
She has a background in theatre, which she uses sometimes in her performances/shows with regards to staging, lighting, etc.
I wish someone would bring her to the US!

Yes, Adishakti! You are right, When somebody will have the idea of having her in America, and I would say, eastern Canada? She is my favorite dancer with Tamra Henna. I am watching her videos for 2 years and I love her! She speaks english i guess because she wrote me in english , answering my questions. She looks a very nice person.

she is graceful and does beautiful turns, but other than that, I am not a fan. i saw a cheesy video of her dancing and then she sits down and smokes a hookah. very unclassy imo. just not one of my faves...

I'm pretty sure this performance would have made me cry in person.
I try not to read the comments under youtube clips any more, but I've noticed in the past that people are *really* hard on Orit. Is it because she's Israeli?
It's hard enough being an American woman in love with an Arab art form!

Israel is a very young country. The Jews that came and settled in the modern state of Israel are from a variety of places, some of European origin, others of Middle Eastern origin etc. There are many Israeli Jews who are of Middle Eastern origin or "Mizrahi" in Hebrew. Asi Haskal is an Israeli of Iraqi orgin. I have heard that Orit is also a Mizrahi Jew. The famous transgender singer, Dana International is a Israeli Jew of Yemini origin.
To be frank, doesn't seem like a conflict of interest when an Israeli is teaching oriental dance and at the same time their government was bombing Lebanon? I've always wondered how an Israeli can reconcil performing Egyptian Oriental and at the same time, the majority of Egyptians have a very negative opinion of Israel? Talk about complicated!!!

Many of us were teaching/performing Arabic dance forms while our government was bombing Baghdad and supporting Israel against the Palestinians. Not a conflict of interest for me at all, since I didn't agree with what my government was doing and didn't believe it served my interest at all.

Did you know that Fifi Abdo has a famous hookah smoking routine? I think she was probably emulating Fifi.

i agree i'm quite embarassed by my government but that doesn't stop me from performing the dance i love. i think it's more of an opportunity to show the openness and respect that some of us have. i think she's doing a great service for her country by creating a link.

I think it's just because some people don't like her dancing.

No, I'd say a lot of it is because she is Isreali. If you look at the YouTube comments you'll see a lot of comments that have nothing to do with her dancing and everything to do with her nationality. It really is a shame because it seems like she has a huge amount of respect for the art form.

Well I hope that I'm not labeled as anti-Israeli just because I don't like her dancing ...But seriously, I'm only trying to point out that it can just boil down to personal preferences rather than political conflict.

Oh no! I agree with you here. I think that someone can not like her dancing because they simply don't like her dancing. I honestly have seen some comments on her youtube clips like, "Oh look at that stupid fat Isreali girl trying to bellydance."
I have some big problems with Isreali politics/policies, but I enjoy Orit's dancing...doesn't make me pro Isreal. You NOT liking her dancing doesn't make you anti Isreal...However, making negative comments about her background and not having anything constructive to say about her dancing, that's unfortunate. (By the way I am not saying that you have done this, but I have seen the comments on Youtube)

Actually I've heard she's an Ashkenazi Jew who studied dance in Lebanon.

Please elaborate, why is that a conflict?
Along the same logic...Egyptians also have a negative opinion of women who belly dance.
