Silk veils for some basic costume pieces?

Hi!

I am looking for some basic costume pieces that I can use for bellydance classes (I am a beginner). I make hand-dyed silk veils and also might want to use something to wear when we're taking photos of the veils.

I was wondering if anyone might have some used (or not) bellydance things that they'd be interesting in trading for a veil (or veils)?

I wear a size 10 or 12, sort-of hourglass (that's a euphemism for "big bootie"), D-cup and I'm five feet four inches tall. I would really how circle skirts look. I also really like silk. I am not sure what would be practical for me. When I look at dahlal.com and other places I like a lot of the stuff that has "gypsy" in the description. Sort of flowy and sexy at the same time.

Thanks!

Alaina

I have a couple of skirts, one is a purple satin circle skirt, no slits; the other is a black stretch trumpet style skirt with tiny royal blue dots... I love silk veils!

Purplesage, this is a little off topic to your question, but you said you are taking beginner classes, and you said you are looking for things to wear to classes.

I know that in some classes, students and even teachers dress up in costume-y things (I have been in such classes myself). But as a teacher, I strongly prefer students to wear slim-fitting leggings or unitards, so I can see their legs, knees, and feet. Even flowy yoga pants sometimes obscures the knee more than I care for. A big full skirt can hide all kinds of postural and position mistakes and suboptimalities that I'd rather be able to see and correct.

Anyway, you might keep this in mind as you pick up fun things to wear in class and for practice.

Hi!

Thank you for the advice. I am new to all of this and haven't even started my classes yet. It was my understanding that I could wear skirts to the classes, but I will check with the teacher before I do now!

Oh well, I still want to get some skirts and other things. Even if I can't wear them to class I can wear them to practice at home and to take pictures of the veils that I make.

Thanks!

Alaina

First of all I highly recommend Alaina's veils..she dyes her items to get the same bright sizzling colors that I like to use, and I have already bought a few silks and a T shirt from her and seen her work in person. She's being shy so I'll toot her horn (and smack her in the buuuutay:) but her work is lovely..she can do ombres and some really neat mandalas and more original works.

eBay Store - the farmhouse boutique: tie dye t-shirts, waldorf play silk, playsilk

Alaina I second what Sedonia is saying about what to wear to class.. yoga pants are great. Some teachers will prefer you to not wear the jingly hipscarves so ask her what she prefers.

For things to wear while modeling your veils how about some long skirts and simple tops ..this ebay seller has some really nice cotton gypsy skirts (i've bought from her before)

eBay Store - Jinny-Jena: DRESS, 6 TIERED SKIRT, 2 LAYERS SKIRT SIZE M

or fold over one of your veils and wear as a sarong:) well email me i may be finally going thru the closet and selling some of my stuff to raise funds for tits. hmm funds-for-tits do you think it would go over well on ebay? :)
