Interested in blues but have a question. I know that fans sometime open differently (like one opens one way for the right hand and the other way for the left had). Is this true with these two? Hope that makes sense.

i've never noticed it before. i've never had to mark one for right and one for left. although i do switch them depending on the way they open for it to be easier for one hand than the other. it could be on purpose, but i'm not sure.
does that make sense?

there are no tears. i'm not sure what you mean by unraveling but i can check. i've barely used them at all.

Actually it still does make a difference, unless the staves open both ways, if you think about the thumb and index finger movement that you do to open the fans it is mirrored in the opposite hand. That's why you get left and right handed flamenco fans, it's not just because of the look.

thank you. You explained that much more better than I ever could. You are very correct. My feather fans are made the way you describe so now I am used to having one opening one way for the left hand and one opening one way for the right hand. Thanks for clarifying ;-)

the unraveling - sometimes the silk begins to have these strings off the end and begin to pull a little and have the look of runs - like in pantyhose.

I have a silk veil I bought from Aneena at Rakkasah. I have used it so much that you can tell that where I hold it. I guess the pressure of flicking it through the air has worn down the silk. Maybe this is because my veils are a cheaper quality. I don't know - ranting LOL

That's not to say it is wrong to use 2 right handed ones, I'm sure it would be easy enough to get used to.

i haven't had a problem using one in each hand. i will check for un-raveling once i get home tonight. i dont think they do, but i will check, cos they do have spokes of wood in them! lol

ok. the only fraying at all i can see is where the spokes are glued onto the silk. i think it's mainly from opening and closing. easily trimmed off. does that help?

I like that fact that Faye's veils are lined on both sides. These are too right? Makes it nice for dancing/photos.
