Dying for an Abla - or similar!
I'm so in love with the old retro style costumes as exemplified by Soheir Zaki and Fifi Abdo in the 70s -- fringy bra and belt in one color, big huge chiffon skirt and stomach net in a contrasting color. The problem is that since Mme. Abla passed away, her costumes have all but disappeared.
I'm searching for a Mme. Abla (or similar style) bra and belt set in almost any color, but silver or gold would be perfect. Bra cup - big C or D, and 32" or 33" ribcage - hips, about size 12 (I think lower booty of 43" would be perfect - would give me room to resize as necessary).
If not Mme. Abla, I'm open to other fringy sets in the Egyptian style - pailettes a plus, but good construction vital. Anybody have one that they've been thinking of selling?
Thanks!

I just bought one that's silver and gold. If it doesn't work for me, I'll let you know!

Re: Dying for an Abla - or similar!
I had this up a while ago, but not sure if the style is what you're looking for...
you could remove the strap and it would be very similar to the old school Abla, I think....the skirt is very full....anyway, here is a picture if you'd like to take a look:

Turquoise International seems to still have some Abla dresses and bra belt sets left.

Re: Dying for an Abla - or similar!
Kiwi Dianna had an Abla she was selling. I think it might be silver. iti might be over at Jeminas, but I'm not sure.

Samira, if it fit Dianna, then it should probably fit my left leg and not much else. ;)
Nayia, that actually isn't really what I'm looking for, but it sure is pretty! If I get the whole fringy thing nailed down first, I might come back and take it off your hands. :)

Hi! Dodn't think so, but didn't hurt to pop in the photo just in case! Good luck, I'm sure something delicious will come along soon!

Re: Dying for an Abla - or similar!
Hi,
I saw on Ranias site she has/had a GORGEOUS gold and copper Abla for sale. BUT this very well could have been on OLD site that is just wondering around in cyber space. Let me see if I can find the link again.
Be right back.
Rania, International Belly Dance Star
Click on store at the bottom than when the window pops up - click on costumes for sale. It will be the only one.
Hope this is of some help.

I remember it had generous boobs. The bra made me feel like a kindergartener- not even close to "blossoming".
I don't remember the bottom- if it had adjustments made or was a two piece belt you never know. I think Jemina said something to me about having tried it on if that helps.

Re: Dying for an Abla - or similar!
Hi Shems! I am considering selling my purple Abla Signature Samia, it is in my profile... purple with silver, the belt is separate from the skirt. Let me know if you are interested!

Re: Dying for an Abla - or similar!
I have a great orange abla for sale but I'm in the Uk so the exchange may not be as you'd like also it is very heavy to send. its as you described very classic style-your size too. I'm asking £200 for it which will be about $400 plus postage. can send you pics if youre interested. There is a bra, belt is joined to the full chiffon skirt, gauntlets with fringing veil, headband and anklets.I've not worn it very much and I bought it from Mme Abla in Cairo the year before she died

Re: Dying for an Abla - or similar!
Lucy,
I sold one to Sharon last year, a member of Lotus's troupe. It was an Abla, silver on white base, very heavy. When I go to class I can see if she still has it and would like to sell. I believe those sizes are very close. Here is the link for the picture. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m...lydance003.jpg

Re: Dying for an Abla - or similar!
Lucy--
Weirdly enough, I just got off the phone with a dancer friend who is very close to your size (I think she's of similar height, shape and coloring if memory serves...it's been a little while since I've seen you.:-) She just told me she is selling an old-style Abla.
She's not on Bhuz, but if you shoot me a direct email at mirah AT mirahammal DOT com, and I'll put you in touch with her by email and/or phone and you can get more details from her.
