Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
Liz - please don't feel old and crap. You are one of the most dynamic people I've ever met - you're a fantastic dancer - you're gorgeous. You're a fantastic magazine editor!!! Don't let the counsellor/shouty person persuade you otherwise. You have so much to offer! (Grap a cup of coffee and have a rethink!)

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
I . . .uh . . . actually don't count being shouted at as therapy.
I am feeling old and crap too. Having the worst time physically with menopause of anybody I ever even heard of, and it has interfered plenty with my dancing, but I AM NOT QUITTING, HELL NO, DAMMIT! (speaking of shouting) Oh dear; if you really do want to sell that costume, might have to post without the quitting part, which seems to be getting in the way! Seriously, no matter what you do, I hope you'll feel much better soon.

Good heavens! For starters you need to change counsellor's, what a horrid person! Feeling old & crap, well I also feel old & crap sometimes, and have dark thoughts about giving up, then I stop and think, how much older and worse I would feel without dance in my life.
Don't give up, maybe take time out for a short while or cut back a bit and see how you feel.
You poor thing, it is really such a downer to feel so bad
Do take a little more time to think
But I am sending you a big hug

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
This can't be the same Liz who was counseling me not to sell myself short and to work for those jobs that need a woman of mature beauty. You obviously love this!! What does your husband say (or is he the one doing the shouting?_

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
what! No! don't you know that you're one of the people who give the rest of us hope? why would we continue if we thought we'd have to give up due to age? I love seeing your posts, reading about your adventures and looking at your lovely pictures.
which won't stop me from shopping ofcourse, but hopefully you'll get yourself another lovely Eman to perk yourself up!

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
I started when I was 40, and my amazing teacher and mentor is in her 60's!!!This is an ageless dance, a beautiful dance for all women of all ages. When I expressed my fears about being too old to even start, she told me she started at 40 as well. And she has had an amazing performance, teaching and troupe direction career, all begining at 40! Age does not seem matter when you start or when you decide to end, I would not let that be the reason to stop....... Your pic is beautiful :)

Whaaaaaat???? NOOOOOOO!!!
Good counselors never, ever shout at people. Many counselors are quite insane. I think you should KEEP dancing, for now, and look for another counselor.

So sorry to hear you're feeling so bad Liz. You are one of the shining lights at our haflas - a real inspiration to us. We are going to miss you so much if you really do go And NADA just won't be the same without you. Good luck and love whatever you decide.
Sadly there's no way your beautiful costume would stretch over my rear end!

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
I agree. Find a new head shrinker. If you need help finding one who is hunmanistic, let me know.
You are a wonderful dancer, a joy to watch and very generous with your skills and knowledge. And darn fun on the dance floor!
Don't make me come drag you out in June!

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, DON'T LEAVE! When I joined Bhuz not so very long ago, I always looked for your posts and was inspired. Your humor helped me take myself less seriously---and I remember in particular one very lovely picture of you dancing that you posted -- there was so much joy and obvious connection to the music -- if you can convey that in one little picture posted on Bhuz, I can only imagine how lovely your dancing is in person. I had a so-called therapist once reprimand me when I was feeling unable to "follow his directions," he said, "You can't just stare at your belly button for the rest of your life.." Outrageous. I paid a lot of $$ to hear that ******. I quit, accepted myself (more or less) and returned to dance. It saved my life.....literally, I believe. You NEVER NEVER know how you unknowingly can help someone. PLEASE don't quit. You are much too valuable to the dance community, on or off of Bhuz....Lots of hugs, TanyaSF

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
No quit. Quitting isn't allowed.
I have no idea how old you are Liz, but for myself, I'll watch an older dancer ANY DAY over a younger one - that whole "life experience" thing, the beauty just flows...

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
Have you looked at your gallery today? Well I just did...
what I saw there was a lifestyle, not a just a hobby. This comes as such a shock...no rumblings, no warnings of discontent. That leaves us all wondering if this is a momentary reaction to something really bad that just happened to you. What could possibly be the downside of continuing to dance? Health, joy, friendship...please..dont be so depressed that you deprive yourself of a means of being well and whole.

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
NO NO NO You will not . Take a break and recharge your passion for dance .
Dance is what keeps us young , what will you do to keep your mind and body in shape?
I do not teach it takes to much from me . So maybe you just stop teaching for a while and see if that helps. As for feeling old we all have a time in life that we have to fight to keep doing what we want , due to other peoples hang ups about what is age appropriate . Fight for your right to do what makes you happy at any age.

Re: Quitting so lots up for grabs
It sounds like you need another therapist. Why would a therapist tell you to give up something that gives you so much joy? Plus, shout at you - that's inexcusable. I suppose there are people who are bad at their jobs in every line. I think therapy isn't all it's cracked up to be. Maybe the therapist has their own value judgements on the dance and what it is.
<vulture on> Plus, I want your eman <vulture off>
