Jim Boz workshop and show in Philadelphia, July 26 - 27. Registration now open!

Pop Raqs and Philly Raqs are excited to come together and present Jim Boz in a weekend of workshops and gala show on July 26 and 27. This is Jim's first time in the area and it is guaranteed to be memorable!

All workshops and show will be held at the Painted Bride Art Center, 230 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Workshop 1: Mezze Al Sharq
Date: July 26, 4 hours, 10 am - 12 pm, break from 12:00 pm - 1 pm, 1 pm - 3 pm
Mezze al Sharq (Combinations from technique, movements, expressions) Sassy to Demure, Bold to Delicate. Sample Jim Boz style Raqs Sharqi with this workshop - an overall introduction to his style and expression.

Workshop 2: Drills and Drum Solo
Date: July 27, 3 hours, 11 am - 12:30 pm, break from 12:30 pm-1:00 pm, 1:00 pm - 2:30p

Beginning with isolation techniques, we will move rapidly into combining layers for application in Drum Solo style performance piece. Combining movements into phrases, and then phrases into a choreography. A faster paced class.

Gala show!
Date: July 26, 7:00 pm - Doors open at 630pm. **All Show only Tickets will be held at the door for WILL CALL pickup **
Pop Raqs Special Edition with very special guest Jim Boz. Special Edition Pop Raqs is a "mixed tape" show with both traditional and non traditional bellydance. Stay after the show for the open floor dancing to a live band!

Jim Boz is an award winning Middle Eastern dancer and choreographer in San Diego, CA. He has entertained audiences internationally with performances both solo and with his professional dance troupe Sandstorm. His workshops are characterized by a wealth of information, carefully organized and presented in a supportive environment.

And remember, my Diva Demands include:
- Cheesesteak (gotta be the real thing!)
- Stromboli (Gennaros - 12th & South)
- Italian water ice (I forget the name, but the last place I went was 7th & Fitzwater...?)
- Maybe a sandwich at Pine St Pizza if I can still fit in my costume

I can't wait to dance in Philly!

Yay, Jim! You are my kind of diva. I live right in South Philly, so OF COURSE we gotta feed you cheesesteaks! Gennaro's, check. Pine St. Pizza, check. John's water ice on 7th st, check. Maybe some Italian Market goodies if you haven't exploded yet? Cannolis! Cannolis from Termini's! Check. Check. Check.

Hmmm, do you think we'll be able to fit any dancing in with all this eating going on?!

It's not a hijack - it's keeping the thread alive.
And hopefully remind everyone that we're going to:
- Sweat
- Learn a LOT about movement and expression in Arabic dance
- Have a freakin awesome time!

Because, in reality, no matter what parts of the accent I can acquire, I'll be so excited when cheesesteak/stromboli/wudder eyce is in front of me it will perfectly obvious I'm NOT local! LOL

I'm really excited - we're working out the details and haven't signed a contract yet, but it's looking very good for an extended visit and several venues in Spring of 2009! Stay tuned!
