MECDA Carnival - Sat Nite @ Wahib's - UPDATED!

So, MECDA's Annual B.D. Carnival is coming up fast, June 7 & 8, and although we still haven't heard the new name of it...it sounds like everything is business as usual.

A couple times in the past I have organized a dinner party @ one of the local Arabic Restaurants, and it has been great fun! As I am not going to Cairo this June, I realized I could do it this time again and Wahib's seems like the ideal place as it is close to the venue, and has great food and my favorite Arabic band.

So this will be a dinner and late night dancing fest on Sat. June 7th!

As there is no MECDA Show @ 8pm this year, we can make the dinner reservation a little earlier in the night, but not too early as the show really doesn't start until 10pm. I have to get an update, but the last time I was there the Jillina's Sahala dancers were there and Tamra Henna was the featured dancer. Cost is around $40-50 for mezza and show...but I'll double check and see if we can get people in w/o dinner for a cover charge.

Want to go?!! Let me know and I'll get a list started.

Yay, a list is growing! I'll make a call in the next day or so to Mohammed Salem who leads the band to get a update on the happs there and give a heads up that we are coming.

Ok, important update!! With the news of Wahib's possibily halting night club entertainment (per Roxxannes posting...I was going to dance @ her showcase in August :-( ) and with no return calls from my friend who leads the band there, I began to think tonight that it may be a 'no go' for Wahib's on the 7th. I called the reastuarant and they wouldn't answer my question about whether or not there is entertainment that weekend in general, instead I was asked how many were in my party (I said 10 for now) and what night (and I said Saturday of course)...then she said they were already booked for a private party. Kind of strange order of answering my original question...maybe she thought if it was a small group I was calling for that they could squeeze us in w/ the private party?!

So, I am sad to say as I love Wahib's, but I think it is time to choose some where else. Can some one suggest a place? I always have gone where Mohammed Salem plays.

I guess there is Atlantis in Pasadena...not familar w/ it.
Or Carousel in Glendale.
I am hoping to not get to far from our hotel in Monrovia.

Thoughts? I'll make a reservation as soon as a place is decided on.

So I am putting out two options for our restuarant adventure:

The Phoenicia - Glendale
Phoenicia Restaurant in Glendale, California

New place to me, so I don't have any imput.

Carousel - Glendale
Welcome to Carousel Restaurant
I have been to the Carousel, but it has been a while. I remember it being very pretty inside, but not really liking the music or food as much as Wahib's. There are many people I know that love the place though and the band may have changed (most likely) since I was there last.

Both above are $43 per person for food & show. Jillina's Sahala dancers perform, not sure if there is a house dancer at either place. I will call and ask though.

Roxxanne mentioned a place called Mirage that is suppose to be nice, with a dj, but I think it is in Encino. Anyone know?

btw, Jenna, when are you coming down? Zahra and Jenna's live music showcase in Eagle Rock happens to be the Friday night before Carnivale this year. It's not Mohammed and crew but at least it's live music and fully costumed dancing. ;)

I have made a reservation @ the Phoenecia for 10 people @ 9pm on Saturday. The link to the restaurent info is above. This will be my first time there, but the menu looks good and it is priced the same as the other restuarants that have the dinner/music/show combo - $43 per person.
They said it would be a $10 charge for those not doing the dinner.

So...please respond and reconfirm with me if you are coming! :-)
I want to make sure I have the reservation number right and know who to expect.

Can't wait to eat, and dance, and eat, and dance....

Nasila - I have been wanting to go to one of their showcases (Donovan keeps mentioning it to me ;-) ) But we have a concert up here to go to Fri night and then we are driving down early Sat. Thanks for the reminder though...I might have been able to pull it off!

ohmygod! i completely forgot! my head has been so deep into a home improvement project and family issues this week that i completely blanked --- which is really stupid because yesterday i was visiting someone in the hospital right across the street from the Carnivale!
