Benefit in Baltimore for Dancer's family, July 27(AUCTION STUFF ADDED)
Hey folks,
More to come, but just a heads up to save the date for July 27th, from 3 to 7pm. This has been in the works for a while, but we finally nailed down the date and location, which will be at Cazbar Restaurant in Baltimore, so if you're in town, or would like to be, well, nuf said
Most of us know, or have seen Lucy(Weese), a premier dancer in the DC/VA area. Lucy's dad, Eldon Bowman, is very ill with Stage 4 lymphoma. To help him and Lucy's Mom out with the financial burdens that his treatments entail, Lucy's friends are staging a bellydance benefit on his behalf.
The event will include buffet dinner, show, and silent auction, with other possible prizes or 50/50. Cost to enter is $20 for dinner and show, a portion of which goes to assist the Bowmans, ALL proceeds from the auction, and any raffle or 50/50, will go to them as well. There is an amazing line-up of dancers performing in the show, so this promises to be an unforgettable evening...........
Very soon, more info will be posted(address, RSVP/reservation info, etc), this is merely to save the date, and pass the word........Lucy has been an awesome, wonderful member of this community, so we look forward to helping out her family during a very difficult time.........
Yours in Dance,
Ruta Moragh

Re: Benefit in Baltimore for Dancer's family, July 27
I'm really sorry to hear about Lucy's dad. This must be incredibly difficult for the whole family.
It's wonderful that you all are doing this to help! Please post more details as they come in. I know others who will want to contribute, and I'll help spread the word off Bhuz.
Best wishes to Lucy, her folks, and all involved,
Suzana

Is there a way for those of us who can't be there to donate to the cause?

Re: Benefit in Baltimore for Dancer's family, July 27
Thank you, you guys. You have no idea how much this means to me, and to my family.
Dad is (or was) the primary breadwinner for my family. He's a long-haul truckdriver, and obviously cannot work while he is undergoing chemotherapy. Although he's responding well to treatment (after a close call early on where he was so dehydrated and sick that he nearly died), he's developing muscle failure and paralysis in his feet, ankles and now his hands as a result of the chemo. Unfortunately, this side effect is permanent. He's already getting fitted for leg braces, but if his hands end up totally paralyzed, he'll never be able to drive a truck again. Obviously, financial concerns are looming large (although my Dad, in his usual cheerful way, says he'd rather "drag his leg behind him like Igor than be six feet under.")
I've tried to help my parents out financially, but they are both really proud people and refuse almost everything I offer because they don't want to be getting "handouts" from their daughter. Having a benefit, however, was a different story -- their pride isn't at stake in the way it is when I try to pay for things for them -- although I'll be donating things to the silent auction to help bring funds their way anyway. ;)
Bless all of you for doing this. I am really, really moved by your generosity and love.
- Lucy

Re: Benefit in Baltimore for Dancer's family, July 27
well, when i get home i'll try to upload the flyer, hopefully readable.......(not enuf time to putz with it at work, but you can pm me for details, or, hold up and i'll try to get it up tonight or tomorrow, in the meantime, someone had asked where to send a direct monetary donation if they can't make the event, and that is:
Eldon & Barbara Bowman
287 Louisa St.
Broadway, VA 22815
Let them know you're in the dance community, so they'll understand where this wonderful gift is from!
The interest and outpouring is blowing me away...........i love this community!

I hope to pick up something in Egypt. My kitty just cost us $1,000, so I'll do the best I can.
