Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
Is anyone going to Pennsic this year? Would you be interested in an informal meetup? Get a group together to attend University classes? I'm relatively new in the Pennsic ME community, and I'd love to get to know other dancers so I'm not wandering around all by myself all week!

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I will be at Pennsic, but given that I live very close by, I have the luxury of not having to make any travel plans. I may not go to too many classes, I tend to dance till late at night and then sleep late, by the time I am finally ready to go to classes, they are over ;-)
I am scheduled to perform one piece on peace week Friday evening, with Alchemy and Wine in the Performing Arts tent, under the name Nesheli.
That said, maybe a Bhuz meet-up during war week/middle weekend at the Inner Vagabond would be fun? (I am kinda addicted to their coffees.)

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
not this year unfortunately................
you can always check the orluk oasis where alot of amazing dancers and musicians tend to hang, and if they stay with tradition, they have a hafla on tuesdays i think, where a couple dozen of the best musicians play, great dancers and a storyteller, you'll often see members of djinn and turku about, and i think raquy n the cavemen have made appearances recent years
wolgemut is great to dance to, so are istanpitta(they've been doing turkish and sephardic music lately) if they make it out again, not sure if cercamon will make it...........
leading to the lakes is another camp that has nice live music, so if you wander about, you'll find 'em..............their name escapes me right now, but when it comes, i'll post

I love the Inner Vagabond! They have awesome baklava too.
I won't be arriving until Aug. 3rd at the earliest, so I'm going to miss all of the Peace Week activities, and I know that's usually when Raquy comes around. During the days I try to hit a lot of the drumming workshops with Carmine and Nevik to offset all the dancing

I am not sure what the plan is this year (haven't seen Baron Durr in a while), but from what I understand, the Orluk haflas have been discontinued in the old format because they had grown too big for the small tent. Instead, things down there happen more spontaneously, they may "turn the lights on" when the mood is right.
I suspect that the best place for running into people may be the Inner Vagabond. Hm, I will dance at their home base on Sunday; I should ask AJ whether she can have a bellydancer message board or something at Pennsic?

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I'll be there 2nd week, and hitting as many classes as I can. (no heavy fighting for me this year)
O'Choda usually has a good party, but I can't remember which night...I'll see If I can get a hold of Yosh and find out which night it is this year.

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I won't be there in time for al-Hafla but if no one has anything else going on Thursday of the second week, the Ladies' Night Out party at the Silver Horde is a lot of fun (albeit not a hafla). Duquesa Isabella usually puts on a pretty nice shindig.

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I just signed up to work a few shifts at Your Inner Vagabond, so it looks like I"ll be spending a lot of time there! I was going over the class schedule and there are so many classes I want to take, and I have a *lot* of conflicts. Has anyone else noticed that a lot of non-ME classes seem to be double- and triple-booked on time and location, especially in the European Dance Pavilion?

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
Oh, you'll be at YIV, that's fabulous! Two of my campmates will be YIV staff, so it will be easy to get in touch.

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I think the European dance classes are banking on low attendance for the concurrent classes...
I haven't checked for conflicts in my schedule yet... Hmmmm
Will you guys be at the classes the ladies from Blue Lotus are teaching? I'm going to try to reduce the immovable arm thing I have going on most of the time. ;)

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I cant get the link on that calendar to work, but Akeru Thunder is doing the hafla on Thursday of Peace Week this year, since lovely Aminah (of Watan) will not be at War to host her usual gig.
Carmine and Melissa will be there to host, so please head up to e-17 at dark that night to come dance!!!!!!
Other Haflas:
Wednesday Peace Week - YIV
THursday PEace Week - Akeru Thunder
Friday - O'Choda (is this one definite this year? I have not heard back)
WAR WEEK:
Sunday - Lusty Wench Party - not a hafla, but lots of good dancing
Monday - Baccanalia at Pentwyvern, FAB entertainment and dancing last year (I will miss seeing Samira dance there this year!!!!! ). Must dress pre-600 AD
Tuesday - Inquisition Masked Ball - again, not a hafla, but good dancing. Must have a mask
Wednesday - I believe this is the hafla thats held in the Euro Dance tent. . . .
Thursday - Mooselodge B03 with Carmine and Melissa
I will post a link on this forum for the download of Haberci (ME activites newsletter for Pennsic) as soon as its complete :-)

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I'll be there over the middle weekend, for about 5 days. I tried using a PennSIC name, but it didn't take, so I go by Ariel there too. I'll be dancing and following the good music, so I should be reasonably easy to find!

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
hee hee, i'll never forget 2 years ago finding Watan wandering about, literally by 'following the cool music'
and then, later in the week at the field battle, Watan marching in ONE fighter................playing the imperial march from star wars........

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I just got my work schedule and it looks like I'll be mostly free before 5pm for classes, and working mostly early evening. I do have Thursday off, though. If anyone stops in at YIV, I'll be answering to the name 'Johara' at War.
The good thing is, I can take almost all the classes I wanted to! The bad thing is that my party rounds look to be a bit more limited.
Is anyone planning on taking part in the guedra Sunday evening?

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
*sigh* no Pennsic for me this year. I'm really sad about that.
I'm sure you'll all have a GREAT time, though.
Basina- thanks so much for all your hard work on the Haberci. It's always SO helpful. :)

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
I just found out what Pennsic was this year and I'd love to go but our event is on the same weekend. I'm going to plan on going next year because it seems like such fun!

Re: Bellydancing at Pennsic XXXVII?
Haberci is finished for this year. You can pick up the PDF at the link below, or from the Yahoo SCA Mid East Music and Culture Group.
https://www.yousendit.com/download/Q...RkVGOFJFQlE9PQ
As usual, you can also pick up a copy of Haberci at Pennsic from Your Inner Vagabond, while supplies last.
