The Workshop Alternative - L.A. Dancers what do you think?

Dearest L.A. Dancers,

I've been working on the idea of something different to do as BellyDanceLA.com and have come up with what I think is a fun idea but I need input in terms of interest level out there:

3 hour Middle Eastern/Mediterranean Cooking Class (with guest dance performance.) Space is limited to 12 people - a professional chef in a gorgeous, well appointed loft w/pro kitchen does the instruction. It would be $80/person including all food & wine.

What do you think - good idea or bad?

(I'm completely taken with cooking classes right now having signed up for a ton of them.)

I guess it's not a good idea since no takers other than you and me!! but then, I love to cook. I'll bet if Shanna was in L.A. she'd sign up. I know she loves food & wine.

Ah well....I'll just do the cooking classes on my own.

I think you'd have to cross-market it, Dani, I think you could draw from both the dance market AND the cooking class market. If you planned it well in advance & handed out flyers at both dance events AND cooking classes/schools/kitchen shops, it could do just fine.

So you'd cook, and then sit down to eat the product while the dancer performs? I think it would be wonderful, I'd love it.

Though I must admit, it would be hard to spend $80 on a cooking class when that would get me a full day of dance instruction. Since I make my living dancing, not cooking, and I can't afford to do that sort of thing all the time, I might be forced to reluctantly pass.

My mom would TOTALLY line up for it, though! Maybe the cooking class market is a better one for this? The dancer would be a fun novelty for them -- and maybe a mini-shimmy class while they're waiting for their eggplants to roast?

Yes, Lauren, I think you're right. I'll talk to the chef and see if I can at least scare up some work for some of my favorite local dancers. I'll just think of it as a promotion opportunity - that is - me promoting dancers 'cuz I'm a nice guy.

not only am I terrible cook, I cannot get around thinking of it as a chore. I wish I enjoyed it. I'd probably eat alot better & save some money.

by the way, when I saw T.H. a week ago, she implied that she may not be dancing at the restaurant much longer. a possibility that she'll be there only a feeks more?

I hope we can all get together sometime b4 summer's end.

Can't say that I blame her - it's a grueling schedule, the poor thing and she's been there for years. I am happy for her though because she is busy enough othewise to let it go.

Tahma, you know she's teaching at Glendale CC now right? She'll start on staff in their dance department in September - the evening classes are open if you're a Glendale CC student. I've enrolled but haven't got the "acceptance" yet. Her class is on T & Th
