Sorry to hear that, my thoughts are with you and your family.
Although I am of no help with Germany.

sorry you are being uprooted again. it must be very frustrating.
here is a link that may help you connect with the local BD community. one of them must have some answers for you.
http://www.orientaldancer.net/belly-...ctors/germany/
hope your move goes smoothly and we will all pray for your husband's safety in the unnamed sand box.

Shar-ri is in Germany, and I think Salima is too. I'm sure that they can help you.

Annwyn, you have my sympathies on the military separation thing -- that really sucks. When my hubby was in special ops, he was always being sent here and there unexpectedly. I don't blame you for giving yourself a nice trip! Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

where in Germany do you want to go? Bella is in Belgium, so if you're staying in West Germany it'll only be a few hours away. You can also try www.bauchtanzinfo.de
If you're staying in the Hamburg area I can ask around, one of my friends lives there and she knows where to find trhe best hafla's and performances.

Ramstein is in the middle of nowhere, I am afraid. I'm not sure what the options are - but if you can stay a bit more in a typical German city, it may be more enjoyable. What place to pick all depends - my personal bias (I was born there) is for Mannheim and a few miles away, Heidelberg - or at the very least, Kaiserslautern (which is a major university town). Much prettier, and both are traffic-wise much more convenient than Ramstein, especially when it comes to traveling around.
Hamburg is beautiful, and I love the north of Germany (Lueneburgh, Kiel, Bremen, the North Sea islands) - I'd probably focus on that part of the country. No idea how much belly dance is to be had there, but the landscape and architecture is lovely.

Annwyn,
The most distressing part of your post is that your husband is headed for an "undisclosed location" - (I do feel for you on the uprooting of course).
W's Surges + undisclosed locations are scary things. Best of luck to your husband and you & your child.

"How far is Bella from there."
You DO get your priorities right, don't you?
Infos about the German dance scene might be found here:
www.bauchtanzinfo.de
And this forum has an English section where you can post your question:
www.orient4all.de
Good luck!

i'd vote Heidelberg, if you need to pick a city to stay a while.
Bella is quite a while away, but there is tons of good bellydancing in germany!
and a big hug for the whole uprrooting/stealing your husband from you thing.

Not a bad pick! It's a lovely city, nice weather, very close to the Bergstrasse (which has lovely wine - try Weingut Schlossberg/Bartsch in Schriessheim, it's my uncle and my cousin). Weinheim is a beautiful city to visit - the castle and the old market square a wonderful. The Pfalz, with more good wine, is close, as is the Alsace. Also, take a trip from Heidelberg to Freiburg, very lovely place. Spring in that area is lovely - I love it when the trees along the hill are all in bloom! And, traffic-wise, HD is super-convenient.

You can travel to Belgium by train. Traveling between germany/belgium by train is fairly easy, though I suspect that you need to transfer a couple of times.
The stealing your husband away thing sucks. hope that your trip can distract you for a while.

As I recall, it takes a bit of patience to deal with this website (esp. for buying international tickets), but here is German rail system's website:

Ramstein to Gent is a good 6 hours in the car, public transport NO idea.
a lot to do? depends. Gent, Brugge, Brussels, Leuven, the Ardennes, lot's of nice places to visit to keep you busy for a few days....
or do you mean belly dance wise. there are a few festivals and some workshops, not so much in terms of shows/clubs etc to go see dancers.

Aela Badiana lives in Germany; don't know the city, but she is super-nice. She used to live in Virginia, but then moved over there. Google her name & you will find her.
Good luck!

Well, Ramstein is really not first choice, anyway according to American understanding distances in Europe are little.
Kaiserslautern is very close, a small cute city. Certainly Heidelberg is close and it is not far to travel to the beauitful area "Pfalz" bordering France.
If you feel like bigger cities, I am in Frankfurt (Studio Orienta, the one who organises Orienta Trade Fair). I am not so sure, but by car it is probably not more than 1,5 hours.
Bella is in Gent Belgium - not too far. Maybe combine it with a sightseeing toor to Brussels.
Good luck!

Okay I feel clueless. What or who is this "Bella" everyone is talking about? I am originally from Gent, go there once a year visiting family. Are we talking about the Chocolate store? Or is it something bellydance related I could check out the next time I am there?
