Hi from Dallas/Ft Worth
I've been lurking for a couple of years now and am FINALLY getting around to really fleshing out my profile and such!
I'm Obsidia (Obi to my friends) and I am in DFW. I'm co-director of L'imprevu Bellydance (L'imprevu is French for the unexpected). My partner/best friend/cohort, Nari, is located in Houston-so we're a bi-located troupe!
Our style is definitely a fusion of our many loves/obsessions-ATS, Tribal Fusion, Folkloric, American Nightclub, Jazz, Turkish Rom, Moroccan dances, etc etc...
Our "vibe" is more of an early 20th century speakeasy/vaudevillian act...we're goofballs so we like to bring a bit of sassy cheekiness onstage along with our technique and love of this artform.
Nari and I are both obsessed with Russia and Eastern Europe-the music, culture, textiles-and it translates into our dancing...
so yeah...
I'm a single mom of an awesome boy (going on 10)..He's the love of my life..and right behind him is my furkid of 15 years, Hannah the cat. She's a wonderful, loving old girl who sits in on rehearsals and classes to give her unspoken opinion..
I'm happy to finally be here regularly and (hopefully) be active in discussions!
Namaste!

Welcome! I am in a tri-located troupe myself (we like to say we are geographically challenged!).
Cute troupe name, btw.

Re: Hi from Dallas/Ft Worth
Welcome to Bhuz!!!
I'm going be in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area July 18-20 for my cousin's wedding! I'm hoping to sneak off for some shopping and maybe drop in on a local belly dance class the 18th or the evening of the 19th. (Morning wedding, so I think I have the evening free.) I have to drive back to Kansas on Sunday, the 20th. Do you have classes, or any suggestions on where to look for bellydance resources in the area? Any good fabric or belly dance stores I shouldn't miss?
Thanks!
Rachel

I would say if you are trying a class and are here through Monday, try either Tamra Henna or Sa'diyya!

Re: Hi from Dallas/Ft Worth
There are lots of shops where you can buy Sari materials too!
Obi, are you registered for 3rd Coast yet? I need to go see what workshops are left...

Yes, if you are going to LIttle Egypt, then it is a short hop over to the Richardson area . . . Beltline and 75 . . . many Sari shops. But that isn't only area . . . just it is close to where I live so I know more about it. You can stop to eat Chinese, Indian and M.E. restaurants too while in the area.
Oh, I forgot to say "Hi, Obi!"
