Hi! Im planning to take belly dance classes in July. I love it & Im really excited, but still unsure which style of dance choose. One question bhuzers, its too difficult to do myself a belly dance bra & belt? Since I dont have too much money to spend in a costume right now that Im new but I like sewing. Hola! Soy puertoriquena tambien! The level of difficulty in costume making depends on how elaborate you want it to be. I've had costumes that took months to make and others that were done in a few weeks. The costuming thread has some great tips.

Where exactly are you on the Island? My sister is in San Juan and would probably be interested in starting up dance again.

Nice to meet you! I have a friend who just made a very inexpensive bra & belt for herself in just a few days and it's lovely... I'll see if she has pics of it in her gallery...

She didn't have pics of it... sad. But I know you can do a set relatively easily and inexpensively -- especially if you already sew. Oh course, I'm not talking about hand-beading the whole thing -- that takes a long time & the materials still get expensive.

Hi...I'm that friend...and you're looking at a green set I'm selling! I did make a bra & belt...but honestly, the green set is better construction & cheaper and comes with skirt & veil. I'd say with mistakes & all I spent around $50 on my handmade one, and then had to buy a skirt.

It is not difficult to begin a costume, but sometimes finishing it can be a challenge. It takes a lot of time and hand work. If you have the patience, then go for it. Otherwise, get your bra and belt base y falda sewn for you by your local seamstress (or talented family member). Then bead and jewel yourself. There will be a lot of time and love put into it, but you will cherish it for a long time. Even after you have moved into the higher end costumes, you will smile everytime you see your first hanging in your closet!
