Hello

Hi, I'm a newbie. I'm just learning for fun, and something to do with my daughter. I haven't taken any classes, but my daughter and I do it with the twins on dvd.

So far I'm really enjoying it. But I could sure use some tips.

Thanks
Sandy

Hi there! you might want to try a few other instructional dvds. Jillina's are very good, though its mostly choreography, but its easy to follow and her style is fabulous. Also, www.bellydance.org has quite a few instructional videos that are very very highly recommended. The material taught is well worth the price of the video and if you watch the swap pages daily* you can find them there for more than half the cost! Additionally, our own Hannan Sultan has a couple of great beginner series out, if you would like to advance beyond veena and neena. Her format is easy to follow and repetitous (sp.?) enough to get it the first time around. And she has a warm personality too. I'm not sure if you can get to a good instructor or not but if you can only study from video right now, IAMED's are definitely the way to go. Welcome to bhuz. You will find a wealth of information here about anything you want to know, all you have to do is ask or check the forums.

Hi Sandy! Welcome to Bhuz!

This is a brilliant gateway to leaning all you ever wanted (and possibly more) about bellydance. You'll get lots of recommendations for videos (I too recommend you look into the Jillina series), and hear about classes, instructors, all sorts of things. Feel free to ask anything you like - there are no stupid questions here... well, if there ARE, I've probably asked them all before anyway.

My best tip for you is to go to an actual class. There's only so much you can learn from videos, and it's no substitute for having an actual live instructor there eyeballing you and correcting little niggly postural/movement problems before they get ingrained. Also, classes can be great fun and very social.

Thanks everyone. I'll check this stuff out.

Right now I can't afford the classes. They are very expensive. So I'll have to learn by video for now.

Anyone know of any good ones on youtube?

Thanks again. :)
