Ahlan!

Hi all,
I'm happy to join the site... I heard much about it, especially regarding the amazing costumes that some of you post! I am only a belly dancer by hobby, but learned it firsthand in Morocco and then danced while living in London. A dancer whose husband was a drummer offered me a (semi-) professional position, but I declined... I love it and admire all those who do it, but couldn't see myself there.

I'm currently a graduate student and do some dancing on the side. I'm also a part-time costume designer.

Thanks!

Welcome to Bhuz, and good luck with all the trials and tribulations of grad school.

Middle Eastern studies! I see you did that as well at Georgetown, right? That's so excellent. Hope my endeavor works out well. I guess there's always belly dancing, if all else fails!

Yup, my time at Georgetown was part of my never-ending Middle Eastern studies. At least it goes well with belly dancing!

Let us know if you find any interesting new books. I'm a book hoarder... must have them all!!

Welcome and you will have to post a pic or two of some of the costumes you have designed!

I will surely do so. I was foolish and didn't bother to bring my sewing machine to my new apartment. So I decided to try something new and design a costume, then have it made in Egypt. I hope it goes well. I have two on the way!

Should be getting a sewing machine soon. I've never actually made a belly dance costume (I used to do historical costuming), but I am dying to try. Any suggestions from those of you who make your own? I've been trying to track down a pattern for the mermaid skirt...
