New member from the UK
Hello! I've been lurking for a little while and finally worked up the courage to say hello.
I live in a very rural area of Scotland but we're lucky enough to have a teacher move here recently. Before that I tried to teach myself from DVD's and books. Trust me, it's hard to carry learn a shimmy from a book. You tend to lose your place a lot.
I'm a very bad belly dancer but I couldn't care less because I love it so.
Having read through the threads, I doubt I'll have anything to contribute, I just want to ride on the coat-tails of the fantastic women here.

Re: New member from the UK
you will learn a lot and one day will find threads you can contribute to. If you have questions there are a heaps of lovely ladies and a few lads who will be glad to answer questions. As for being a 'bad' dancer, i think we all feel we are bad when at the beginning of this wonderful journey, but you do get better

Welcome to Bhuz ...even if you don't feel you have something to contribute, this is a great resource. How long have you been studying belly dance?

Re: New member from the UK
Thank you everyone for all your kind welcomes!
Lisa, I've been studying for three years. That's two years with a book and some dvd's, one year with a teacher who is trying to get rid of all the bad things I learned with books and dvd's.

It sounds like your teacher is really helpful. I tried learning belly dance from a book too when I was about 10 years old but I had the same problem as you. It was so hard to figure out how to make things look right from a book. I commend you for your dedication to learn the art. I wish you the best of luck in your learning!
Lisa

Always nice to see another Scot - whereabouts are you? If you're ever travelling to one of the major events be sure to let the rest of us know so we can say hi!

Wiggle, I never say online where I am. I had this wierd stalkery type girl once, and as you don't look at all like a wierd stalkery type person I shall message you.
I'd love to go to the big events but never seem to find time outside of work.
