Wait, I'm confused - we have a current thread where people were busting on a dancer's video and many people posted that it was wrong to mock her.

But isn't this the same thing? It appears that the ebay bidder made these items herself. They may not be something I would wear, but I can't make fun of someone's creativity or costuming skills.

Or am I just feeling extra sensitive and lousy today?

Maybe it's the later phillyraqs. The person offering these costumes has them listed as showgirl or bellydance.

So we aren't necessarily dogging out her creative ability for bellydance. Just the oddness of her creations in general.

For all we know she might have a golden gem amongst her creations, but she hasn't showed that one yet.

I think a sense of humor must have gone into designing these. Surely someone who designs glow-in-the-dark space alien faces on a bra (as her Area 51 costume has) must have howled with laughter and said, "Oh, that's so much fun - I MUST make a costume with this!" So I believe I'm laughing WITH her!

And yes, if the space alien bra had a matching belt, and was available in my size, I would be very tempted to buy it!

I think the items were clearly designed with tongue firmly in cheek, so I feel like we're laughing along in the spirit the items were intended rather than mocking someone designing serious costumes.

But, to cover all bases -- I was the one posting that it was wrong to mock that dancer, but I also clearly said all bets are off when someone goes commercial and tries to sell me something. This is not a woman making her own costumes for a hafla, or even trying to sell her self-made student creations. She's a professional designer of Vegas costumes:
