since a week ago I got to enjoy the music of Beatbox Guitar I saw a bit of the tribal vibe. I really like Mira Betz among the Tribal Fusion dancers and was impressed also by the super sexy Susan Frankovich whose moves are sooo fluid like she has no bones, it's amazing. Both of them are very feminine and bear a certain bellydancer-vibe. Kaeshi shows an interesting mix of dance and costume styles and is more on the cute, girlish side. I tried a few Tribal Fusion moves in the workshop which felt rather alien, but intersting enough.

Rooting through youtube for vids with Beatbox Guitar I was blown away by the fusion dance of Irina Akulenko. I sort of reflected a little about fusion and also problems of fusion - but there she goes creating with grace and ease a thing that is not elements thrown together but a harmonious dance as if it was meant to be that way, and it's marvellous to see her move. To me, even though she doesn't do actual flamenco, she totally portrays a spirit which is essential to flamenco and which often just isn't there when I see flamenco-fusion:

HIS workshops rocked! Master class was awesome....his presence and company is so amazing....he is the most humble and pleasant teacher...and his two choregraphies are full of life...
and even more excited to find out that his birthday is March 18th...Pisces like me :)

so I haven't been on bhuz for what seems like forever (more like 2 weeks haha) but I just wanted to chime in real quick to say that Lena needs to be in the U.S. more!! this woman is amazing, from her choreographies to her personality, I felt like I knew her for forever and she was such an inspiration. Her and her troupe, Sheherezade, did AMAZING here for the Stellar Advantage workshops in Orlando, and I can't recommend her highly enough. Overall I think Stellar Advantage outdid itself, I loved every workshop I took in the intensive and walked away each day feeling inspired and in love with the dance all over again. I was actually really sad to have to say goodbye (to both her and Aziza) at the end of this weekend. I am contemplating making a trip to Sweden :) hehehe

and it was nice meeting all of you bhuzzers in person! :D

This is the first year I've been able to attend BellyPalooza in Baltimore. I also got to participate in a small capacity which was a pleasure. As somebody who has been involved in organizing several events of different scales I always appreciate a well run event.

Piper has been putting on BellyPalooza for some time in Baltimore along and her sister Melina and mother Rhea come in to support. And I just wanted to say I'm a fan. They are all three lovely and very entertaining performers and they bring in local and national talent for workshops and a show, invite vendors and collect a wonderful group of volunteers. I fully admire the all around positive energy, the high caliber of the workshops I took, the diversity and entertainment of the performances I saw in the show, the organization of it all and all the smiles Piper in particular managed, with all the hard work she put into it.

Mad props to Piper, and all the peops that made BellyPalooza happen this year. Great Job!
