Pampering yourself?
I've had a pretty difficult day. I'd like to do something nice for myself. Usually that involves something to do with costuming But, I'm broke.
I'm thinking I'll go soak in the tub for awhile.
What do you do to take care of yourself when the Universe has decided, yes, indeed, today is the day that you are gonna get it?
Inquiring minds wanna know...

I write letters to my friends. I know it doesn't seem like pampering, but with a good fountain pen and nice paper, it just feel like a very personal and indulgent evening.
Either that, or I dig the frozen Thin Mints out of the back of the freezer. hee hee.

Well I don't do this enough, but I like scented candles, with a nice hot bubble bath, My rubber duckies followed by a nice glass of red wine and freshly covered chocolate strawberries....

chocolate, or, if I feel like adding chocolate would make me feel very guilty afterwards, a strawberry facial mask, followed by a long, hot shower and then a layer of my way-too-expensive-bodymilk-to use-every-day.
When I feel bloated and ugly (PMS) I can also cheer myself up by trying new make-up or doing a manicure.

When I just want simple relaxation, I'm with Ozma: I light a couple of candles and curl up on my bed with a good book and a couple of pieces of dark chocolate. When I want to truly pamper myself, nothing beats a facial, massage, mani/pedi, and a trip to the salon! After that, all is right with the world.

If I have the cash and the ability to book it, I get a massage. The woman who does massages for me is THE BOMB. She does full body deep tissue stuff, basically busting up all my muscles and putting them back where they're supposed to be, and she does it with nice relaxing music and delicious aromatherapy oils. The second to last one I had, she decided unilaterally to use certain oils and certain techniques that would completely knacker me, to the extent I would need to sleep that afternoon. I did, and it was bliss.
I actually like going out and spending money when I feel blah - going to a nice cafe or a pub, that is quiet, and having something nice to eat and a wine or beer, and a read of some kind of wanky expensive magazine. Or disappearing into a cinema to watch a film midafternoon when nobody much is there.
When I can't do that, I like to curl up on the couch with the heater blatting away,or in bed with the oil heater on high, and read a book or watch a movie.

Dinner with a friend (or just a glass of wine at a friend's house)
A sloooow yoga flow with Krishna Das or Deva Premal playing, just for me, no one to teach! (if I'm truly losing my mind, I chant along)
A massage if/when I can afford it
Curl up with a good book

I'm on the choc. boat too. Nothing beats that for me. I also, unplug my phone and turn off the cell phone so I won't be bothered and put on classical music and take a bath with candles.

I like taking a bath using some of my favorite Lush bubble bars or bath bombs, and then putting on my silky bathrobe. :) Also, watching Dr. Who always makes me feel better, especially the David Tennant ones.
Last time my husband went out at night to watch the game with some friends, he came home to find me watching aliens try to blow up the earth, with bright blue goop all over my face. Luckily he thought it was cute.

Hmmm...
dark chocolate is always good
TCBY (chocolate with chocolate jimmies) is also good- and I remind myself that it has good for me live active cultures in it
DSW (SHOES) is always good
a trashy novel
listening to music
a pedicure
watching videos (belly dance or Bollywood) and sewing
(these are a few of my favorite things)
....and yes, I occasionally get that "Favorite Things" song stuck in my head - you know, with Julie Andrews from The Sound of Music. There's something about musicals that is uplifting (hence Bollywood)

Curl up with popcorn slathered with grated cheddar cheese, equally cheesy romance novel and some chilled apple cider - followed by a nap. If I need to pamper at night, then after quick shower and shampoo and moisterizing,I stay up watching any movie with Antonio Banderas or bellydance in it, and have a glass(or two) of whatever champagne I can afford. Always fixes me right up! The secret is not to watch or read anything new, that way you don't feel bad about drifting off to sleep because you KNOW the ending.

First line of defense are my pet rats who always know I've had a bad day and do everything in their power to make me feel better - usually lots of kisses
Lately, I find cooking (and then eating) helps me clear my mind. If it's a really bad week, shoe shopping is in order. I got some awesome Steve Madden shoes on sale over the weekend due to a phenomenally bad week.

Lush bath bomb, glass of red wine, calm music and whatever sci fi/fantasy novel I'm reading at the moment!
In fact, that is sounding pretty darn good right now...

Nap. Napping clears my head normally.
If that doesn't work or I can't nap, I go buy myself an expensive, ridiculously sweet that doesn't taste like coffee drink. The fancy lattes. They always perk me up.
