Spanish fusion costuming//under the 25yd skirt?

I'm working on a Spanish fusion piece for a local hafla. I've got a nice big skirt -- 25yds from Gypsy Magda! -- but I don't know what to put UNDER it. Harems don't seem appropriate for Spanish fusion. Leggings in a coordinating color? Sheer stockings? I don't want to go bare-legged.

WWBD? (What Would Bhuzzers Do?)

Well what a timely question! I just did a Zambramora solo at troupe hafla with TWO 25 yd. big skirts (turquoise on top, red on bottom)and like an idiot I wore harems underneath for modesty. Never EVER will I wear harems under two skirts - the bottom skirt clung to the harems and made it more difficult to pick both skirts up to work them without also picking up the harems. Routine was okay, and pretty with matching solid veils in red and turquoise but geez, it was tiring! So, next time I will either wear bicycle shorts or the "sissy pants" from my square dance attire, because they are opaque, come to mid-thigh, and have tiny little ruffles that help prevent static cling and I can easily pick up both skirts. But bicycle shorts would do the same thing for all you non-square dancing belly dance folks out there!

I have a pair of silk sateen (made from recycled sari materials) pants to wear under big skirts. They are the Indian salwar style - not too full, and they have a lovely pattern at the narrow ankle. They are slim enough to not bunch, pretty enough with the brocade and slippery enough to not cling. Only disadvantage - hard to find, and one shouldn't be too rough with them.

I wear some footless, black lace tights that I bought many years ago. They go well with the black lace bodice of the costume and fit pretty well with the Spanish/gypsy theme. I see lots of lacey hose for sale these days, although haven't seen the footless ones.

Maren Hart of Cottage Emporiums sells recycled silk sari skirts, harem pants, and the like. If you don't see what you're interested in on her website, email or call her. Her website is www.cottageemporiums.com

Gypsydance, I have a major complaint here ;-) Next time you post a link like that, can you please add a warning: "Lock away your credit card, sit down, and proceed with caution." You're endangering the financial and mental health of your fellow Bhuzers ;-)

I have a hard time resisting myself. I just bought one of her skirts, and have to take it to be shortened. I'll have to take a picture of it and try to figure out how to post it. Each tier is different, and it's gorgeous!

I highly recommend that NOBODY try to find interesting footless tights in plus sizes on the web. Every time I found something that looked cool, it didn't come in a plus size! I reckon I'm returning to the bike shorts idea!
