I've been in need of a flowing blue-light blue 3 panel silk skirt for a while now...I should also try it with the lilac-pinkish satin one I never wear.

Mekyria,
You were 100% right in suggesting a lighter skirt.
Ignore my smug expression.

Mekyria,
I like what you've done so far and the proposed additions will look very nice - the extra row will be pretty but I think it's pretty as is too. I like the center medallion idea though.

I agree, Mekyria, it looks great like it is...although the center medallion will look nice. I'm all about less is more! That's why I like your work so much!

Just a couple of months ago, I finished a vest and belt made from an old vest of mine. I've got a website devoted to recycling things which is where I have pics posted. I'd just link one of the pictures but I'm not sure how to do that.
You'll have to scroll down near the bottom of the page to see it. As you can see, I'm into too many hobbies.

It's not as fancy as what you guys do. But I'm pretty happy with it.
Right now, I've just finished some copper bead bracelets to go along with it and will start on a choker.

Rbecca, thanks for posting your site! I always wondered how I could use the foil tops of yoghurt and other stuff, the cards that you made with them look great.

This is the pink bra/belt I made a couple of months ago. I need to change the straps on the bra from a halter to something else because it's a little heavy. On the belt, the front piece is suppose to have a waist strap or something so it's sticking out funny.

Nice!
If the straps are long enough you could always change it to straps that cross in back. It'll have a halter-like shape in front and lift you the same way but put less stress on your neck. cross-in-back styles can be a little hard to get into and out off, but that beats neck-strain!

My overly large bras were partially saved by the addition of a huge, honking hook in the middle of the shoulder straps that just slip one over/into the other, I can even do it myself with no help, so that's another option. I've danced in it twice and haven't had a problem. It configures the bra straps like a racer back sports bra.

I finished the belt for the red costume. Two layers of fringe, swarovski crystals and holographic sequins.
And I took a snapshot of what my working surface would ideally look like. In real life I sit on the floor of the livingroom with bits and pieces scattered around me. Where do you sit when beading?

Mekyria,
I wish you lived here in LA so I could take costume lessons from you! I would really like to learn how to do costume construction, but I don't know anyone locally to learn from other than one person who isn't close enough to me.
One of Jillina's dancers makes amazing costumes (for Jillina and herself I think), I wish she'd do workshops. Maybe I need to plant the seed in her ear.
I can sew, but I need a seminar on costume-making. Hey, maybe someone could do an online tutorial and charge for it?

Dani,
That belt pattern that I bought from you a couple of years ago has proven to be pretty much foolproof. I've made several costumes with it. (I'll post one of them here soon)
Maybe you should get another one of those patterns, it makes belt construction really easy.
Regards
Priscilla

Priscilla,
It figures I'd sell something I"d want later! But actually, my issue is with the beading. I need to be shown how to do it. I can't learn from reading instructions. too frustrating.

There are not much sources about beading online, but you could take a look in the crafts section in yuor public library. There are often other books that cover several different beading techniques, e.g. books on bridal decoration. I'm working on a costume book in Dutch that will cover some of the basic texhniques, I hope that this picture can explain some of the techniques commonly used:
I made this image for my book, please do not put it on a site or anywhere else online. okay, I know, I shouldn't put it online if I didn't want it to be out there, but I trust you guys.

Well, for someone like me - those make no sense anyway so we won't steal them. I have to be shown in three-dimensions before diagrams work for me.
I just emailed someone to see if they would host a costume making workshop but doesn't sound like they will be doing it. oh well.
Maybe I need to organize one - I'm going to look into it for selfish reasons.

How about this?
http://www.amazon.com/Baba-Studios-C...121602-8159659
It's the next best thing to a workshop. Apparently it's not available on Amazon but you might be able to find it somewhere else.
More people ought to do costuming DVD's. Hint...hint, IAMED.....
Regards

Sha-ri
I nominate Sha-ri to do a costuming video. Her stuff is beyond gorgeous. That costume a few posts up is so beautiful.
Sha-ri, you know that you will have so much free time after your baby is born - how about a video project on costume-making?
