Ozma, your creations are stunning. I especially love the fabrics you work with, they're so rich and beautiful.

I'm really lucky to have access to fabric stores with amazing brocades, traditional kimo fabrics, obi brocade, and used kimono stores.

I bead in the front room, watching dvds. I bead in bed, watching dvds and listening to audio books, and this makes the covers a minefield of pins. I bead in the English room, listeing to audio books and sitting in front of the windows. And my level of beading insanity reached new high while I worked on the project known as "The defugging" when I did an alarming amount of the work on the trains of Japan.

ah, the train! Trying to find a window seat so you can fill the tiny table with your stuff, then try to work without poking your elbows into your neighbour and ignore people staring at you. Reply to questions from the woman sitting opposite to you about how long it takes to finsih a costume then realize your stop is next, grab everything together trying not to spill beads all over the floor and run for the door.
Ozma, what's the diffrence between 'normal' fabric and kimono fabric?

No tables on Japanese trains (except bullet trains).
The fabric itself isn't much different, it's the patterning. The stuff for obis is generally thick and shot through with metalic threads.

I heart kimono and obi fabrics! They really are luscious- especially rinzu that has motifs woven into the fabric itself. http://www.ichiroya.com/item/list3.php?no=122227 and here's a bolt for making an obi http://www.ichiroya.com/item/list3.php?no=122242 Some obis would make the coolest corset belts!
I just ordered a bunch of beads and sequins to finish up a project so hopefully I'll have things to share soon.
I also bought a bedlah on ebay that is going to need some TLC and some serious revamping because as it stands, I think the fringe will drown me.

I work for an attorney and every vacation he takes I sit at my desk and bead. Most of my beadwork has been done at work - sometimes at home in my comfy chair-and-a-half. I fill ziplock bags with the different sizes/colors of beads - easy to transport.
He is on vacation next week in fact and I hope to get more done on my Ruby Red Loop costume. If I do, I will post a pic.

everyone's projects are sooo beautiful! (koneko, i cracked up at the henna on the dog and the peeps!) i am still envious of all the beautiful costumes, as i am still pretty new to this, and so far have just aquired tons of hip scarves, made a few veils, (i love veils!) and have made a couple skirts, and some cholis and harem pants to sell. (to fuel the 'habit'!) lol! i want a bra and belt set next, though! i have started one, but keep changing my mind on the colors! i had rules out some gold and black brocade i have, thinking it would be too busy, but after seeing some of these projects it actually sounds very nice!

I've just spent over half of last Friday making a bra cover. It was last minute change for a show outside. The first outfit I had made was just too heavy for the heat.
The week before I made a short black jacket. They're not bad considering they were made from old tops I had.
I'm in the green and black outfit.

Hmm, why is it showing as a link? I tried to put it up as an image.

I just clicked on the end of this tread, read it, posted a responce to Salima- and then went back a page- and back and back- and it was as if I have never seen this thread befor- I saw salimas work in progress of this costume- and it is just magic to see it on her. and sha-ri costume- WOW. I need to go and study all these again and get inspired with all these ways of thinking about design. Ive been off in Mata Hari costume for too long.
I think it would be fun to do videos too--- question is - what to put in them! so much stuff, so little disk space!
mekyria that graphic is GREAT!!! I cant wait to buy the book!-- oh wait it will be in dutch... but if the graphics speak for themselves it wont matter. Keep up the great work!

Wow all such beautiful projects. I love this topic. I'm currently working on a dark rust brown costume. A color I wanted for ages, but could never find the fabric for. The materials are in Oz now and I'm in Europe, so there isn't much happening yet!
The idea is to make a tight skirt that has wrinkles at the hips and becomes wider near the feet, if that makes sence. it will have a slit, but I need yet to find a way to make that a bit modest ha ha. I don't want the skirt show too much leg.
Then it will be covered with strands of chunky beads. The bra will have that same wrinkly effect and same strands of beads. I will also incorporate some rhinestones in the costume. The rhinestones come from a mis-buy I had some years ago, a costume that didn't fit. So good recycling
Of course I will make some assesoiries as well.

The red costume that I was working on a few weeks ago is finished (see earlier post for progress pictures). However, I didn't take any pictures yet because I was caught up making a Tudor style dress. It's not belly dance, but it's costuming none the less

What's the occasion, Mekyria? That dress is fabulous - it looks like a lot of work went into it!

I'm not a princess (if I could, I'd be a belly dance princess, wearing a different pharaonics every day ). The occasion was castlefest, a Dutch event that you could describe as a cross-over between a renfair, a medieval music festival and a fanatsy/scifi convention. The best thing is that it's held on the terrain of a real castle (I'm standing in front of it in the picture) and that a lot of people get dressed up for the occasion.
Isn't it renfair seaon in America? And Pennsic is also this weekend, right? Are there more bhuzzers who accasionally get into historical/fantasy garb too?

My current beading project will take ages, but I've also been going through my closet (general and dance) and revamping things I don't wear often.
My red "mini style" Melodia pants got the re-vamp treatment this week. I designed the sencil, cut it, and stenciled using fabric pants which I later heat-set with an iron.

Wow, Ozma! That is very, very cool!!! What a great idea...they are transformed.
I started out shortening my gold on gold holographic LRose beledi dress and have ended up getting myself into a major project with it. It needs some turquoise and coral accents. Today I put oval cutouts on the sides of the bodice and lined with nude net. Bought some remnant pieces of turquoise holographic lycra and I am busy cutting out tiny pryamids to applique around the cutoouts.
