Thanks!
Currently I'm making a trio of belts for a local tribal group AND making myself a pinstriped halter, corsetbelt, arm bands and choker. For a "Cabaret" cabaret look.
(ps. objects near the camera appear larger than they are)
Thus far the halter is finished.

I love how neatly you've sewn it...those pinstripes match up perfectly, that's not easy!

That's looks lovely Ozma, those stripes do line up perfectly. I hate sewing with any kind of stripes, every time I try to align them I end up with one half horizontal stripes and the other half vertical stripes. I don't know why I have a special knack for messing them up.
You're very talented.
Regards
Priscilla

Wasn't sure where to post this so I'll just stick it here. I was browsing through clearance clothes online and I found these pants. They have a really cool beaded waist. It reminded me of a belt without the fringe. I really know nothing about making costumes, but I thought since this was so cheap it may be something some one could take apart and use the belt area, or just add fringe and have some unique pants for dancing.

I was just going back through the posts and saw that gourgeous white costume susan made. If you are looking for a way to modernize it, you could try changing the shoulder straps, maybe to something like the green bra Salima made.

More progress on "Cabaret-cabaret"
I think I need to trim the tassels and add upper-armbands...and wash my mirror. If I knew where to pick up an inexpensive bowler around here I probably would

Ya'll are good. I'm so green with envy right now. My velvet dress is still hanging in the closet after six years. I have no sewing skills at all.

Don't worry, I didn't get my skills overnight. I made many a mistake to get to this point.

Ozma if you ever get tired of your Cabaret/cabaret ensemble I want to be first in line.

Cool: this topic is back! I still can't show what I'm going to work on as it's just a piece of fabric and a bag of beads at the moment! The thing I'm making is a dark rust brown velvet beaded bedlah. This time no belt, but beads on skirt, which is a new thing for me as I used to hate that style LOL. The beads are chunky glass beads, so a little more heavy as usual, but I just had to have them, they are so nice. As soon as I have some pictures I'll post them.

It's been a while, but the purple/black costume that I was working on is almost done. I had to take pictures of some other costumes yesterday, so I already had the make-up and background.
total front view:
theatrical side view to show how the lines in this costume work when you're looking from the side:
and a close-up of the bra:
