Costume alterations

Hiya!

I just got a super nice bra/skirt combo....but I have two problems:

1) It's a halter and the bra strap on my back wants to "settle" lower, even though I've adjusted the hooks to fit. I don't want to make it too tight, but the slippage is bad. Elastic, tape, ideas????

2) The skirt is too large in the hip/booty. I took a few darts, added elastic in the Bellydance with K article. This thing is dripping with sequins and schtuff and I'm afraid to dart it too much. Whadda you think?

Thanks! B

About the back strap slipping down: I had the same problem on one of my costumes and added a pair of straps that go from the halter-straps to the back strap. I used very thin ones, so they don't change the look to much. You could even try with some clear straps if you don't like the look of additional straps in the back.

But no idea about the skirt besides darts and elastics Anything else would mean to remove some beadings to be able to take the seams in or add more darts. Well, I know about a dancer with a very small booty who uses to sew paddings into her skirts, if this would be an option;-)

How much space do you want to remove in the hip area? the sewing in elstic-thing tightens the waistband, not the hip/booty area. If it's possible, could you make the side/back seam broader so the skrt is tighter artound your booty?

Booty pads!! Hehe! I need to buy the JLo jeans!!

I thought about the center seam idea. Has anyone tried just flat out remaking a skirt? Cut it into panels, add chiffon, trumpet style. It frightens me a bit to think of it!!

What did you use to make the "halter" br straps?

Thanks for the ideas!!

Hey, I wear booty and hip pads when I perform! I'm top heavy with small hips and it helps costumes fit better and balances out the figure. Now that I am older and more "waistless" the padding helps even more!

Seriously, you might want to consider the nonslip elastic that is sewn into swimsuits and strapless bras or the double sided tape you can get in the lingerie section of any department store.
