Shop like an Egyptian store
This is new to me and I was wondering if any of you have purchased from here or are familiar with this site? I see several things I like but it seems odd for some reason. Maybe it's the pasted heads on the models. It just doesn't feel right.

OT (Don't know about the store) but I've noticed that when I post something it doesn't show up in new posts either. I think it must be programmed to show new posts other than our own. (?)

Isn't this a morphed pix of Dina?

I saw Shop Like an Egyptian vending in Portland last month. Nice people. I saw several interesting costumes but I did not purchase anything.
Anytime I shop online I ask detailed questions regarding type beads used in fringe and beadwork (rough-cut or smooth glass beads), if zippers are in good condition (no missing teeth), all beadwork on hems are intact and not crushed (previous shoppers stepping on beadwork, etc), and if wear-and-tear from previous shoppers evident when costume arrives will enable you to return costume without buyer being responsible for any shipping fees or restocking costs.
Never hurts to ask.

The Egyptian Dina? Doesn't look like her figure or hands to me but that's just my opinion. And that outfit doesn't look like it should be worth over $1,000 to me. It's material with the least amount of beading and no glitter or sparkles at all.

Sahar O. is always expensive. It's her costume, at least in the picture.

No, that is not a picture of Dina. I have seen the original picture. Its a dancer who modeled for Sahar's costumes back in 2004. But it is a Sahar costume. As an owner of 12 custom-made Sahars, I can say that yes, they are expensive, but they are really worth it. The skirts are super comfortable and flattering and the bras are very well built and sturdy.

Sahar's costumes do have tons of swarovsky crystals on them and they do sparkle well under the light. The problem is that you cannot see those details in those pictures. But they are there!

the owner of the store is the mother of the dancer leyla jamal in OR. very nice woman and very knowledgeable and professional. I've met her in person and spoken with her several times. I'd feel very comfortable doing business with her.

The "New Posts" feature shows only those messages that are new since the last time YOU PERSONALLY accessed that particular thread. So if you were the last person to post on a thread, you won't see that on your personal "new posts" list until such time as someone posts a reply. But don't fret, because OTHER people see it even though you don't! Because to them, YOU are the "other person" who posted something they haven't seen yet.

The pasted-on heads are really weird... I love, love, love this dress though: http://www.shoplikeanegyptian.com/mi...roduct_Count=8.
If only it made any kind of sense for me to buy a $400 dress for a specific style of dance that I have never studied, will probably never get paid to do, and don't own any of the accessories for.
EDIT: omg, they have a really cute variation on the "Leela from Dr. Who" trend, too: http://www.shoplikeanegyptian.com/mi...oduct_Count=17

The name "shop like an egyptian" cracks me up. Do Egyptians shop differently than Americans?
:-)
Now I need to get that dang Bangles song out of my head ("walk like an egyptian")....

I don't know who made the melaya dress, but Aida Nour made the other one. If you are not sure about spending $400 on a melaya, you can buy it cheaper elsewhere. Raqia Hassan designs melayas. In fact, she just updated her web site with a red one. I guarantee it will be less expensive than $400.00. Go to www.raqiahassan.net and click on the link to view her costumes. I have a melaya that I had custom made with the veil, head scarf and partial facial cover and the whole set was $400.00. I also have a less expensive one for about $200 that was made by a male designer in Egypt. Its a "seashore" design so the bottom has turquoise fish netting and there are appliques of sea stars, shells and fish all over. Its actually cute. It worth it even though you are only going to wear for one kind of dance. Perhaps that will inspire you to learn the style. That's what I did-I bought the first costume and then learned the style.
