i NEED silk arm drapes..patterns? pics?

The sewing-illiterate would really like your help finding/making/designing the most gorgeous graceful flowing princess-like arm drapes ever. Made of silk of course. I haven't found any pics on bellydance sites yet, that best illustrate what I'm after ..maybe a looksie on the medieval costuming sites may help?

What works best for design if I wanted something made of silk, with a sort of rippled look to it? And long and full. Not straight edge. No sleeve on it..possible to make a very simple elastic armband ? Would you just make a casing of silk to cover the elastic?
help the idiot!! please post pics, sites, instructions, patterns..anything to help

On www.nadyas-naehtipps.de are some examples for princess-sleeves: http://www.nadyas-naehtipps.de/englisch/e-stulpen.htm with some of the most common patterns I found on Bella costumes;-)

I agree with Sha-ri that Bella has really pretty arm sleeves. Great inspiration there for making your own.

Well, I have made medieval dresses that sound like they have the type of sleeves you are looking for. I like the idea of a 2 inch band, with grommets/button holes and thin elastic lacing. I have already made just bands like that (pictures later if you want).

The sleeves I based on a pattern like this http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/0/0/4...0453088_tp.jpg

the pattern piece:

I want to make some for myself, but not silk for my first attempt =).

Is that what you are thinking of?

Those are the style I make as well. If you go for an elastic casing instead of lacing them up, tying a contrasting braided ribbon a few inches below the top looks nice.

Are you thinking about a sort of "lettuce leaf" edge to the bottom or a circular drape? The ripple look edge can be made with serging or rolled hems or you could even weight the edge slightly by adding some light cording or trim.

these are definitely on the right track..similar..maybe a little longer, and yes lettuce leaf edge on a circular drape ..similar to the drape that was on the cholis I made (but without the choli part)

not including the silk and dye work what do you think it would cost to pay a seamstress to make these? any volunteers? or we could trade..I'd dye you a pair and me a pair if you sew them both (or similar trade)..

how much silk do you think a pair would use?

thanks everyone ! I saw a drape on Dancing with the Stars that was gorgeous too, will see if i can find a pic..

I think she is inside of two semicircular pieces of fabric - attached to the shoulders of her costume, and to her wrists, but open everywhere else.

I think you could get this effect with a pair of your "little wings", safety pins to attach them to your shoulders, and two bangle bracelets or cuffs to attach them to your wrists. and a little bit of artful draping to get them to hang right.

Not exactly, they are not symmetrical. Other side is attached to wrist, under the arm about 2 inches from the shoulder and waist to the other side on the back. Other side is attached to wrist and armpit. I don't know the front part.

At least I think so.

It's really hard for me to tell. I have to watch it again, because honestly, I was actually distracted by Billy Ray's slop. I'll watch again.

lol I didnt like Billy Ray at all during the comps..kept thinking that poor woman stuck with such a clod..

well what timing..for the arm drapes there are some great pics in the Tony and Robby website that was just posted in the swap meet section..but is it possible to make them long like that..but without the sleeve part..just maybe elastic to hold them on?

Jes , I'd love to give making them a try. How long are you imagining them? I'm going to try making some out of scrap fabric to see how much fabric it will take.
