I got squished yesterday (first time!)
Had my first mammogram yesterday--I feel so officially 40 now!
It's never too early to take care of the girls...you can get directions for self-exams and a free breast self-exam card here:

My local radiology center had free walk in ones. I got squeezed and the girls got thier picture taken. Free and i got a neat breast cancer awareness t-shirt. Squeezing hurts when you got hardly anything to squeeze, but if it prevents cancer. A bit of pain is worth it.

If you think what you experienced yesterday was bad, try having a lump in your breast, near the nipple (where there are more nerve endings, and hence more pain with the squishing), with the mammogram's focus being to examine that lump.
May you never experience the SMALL paddle, the full-size one is bad enough!

PS: It turned out to be benign.

I have been putting mine off. My doc told me I would have a high probability of getting some kind of false positive because my breast tissue is still dense (e.g. I haven't had kids and I'm still very "perky").
As someone said in a costuming thread once, I'm a c cup for "acreage and not depth", I can't understand how they are going to get them squeezed between two plates, they just aren't going to go into that configuration without some unpleasant force:-(

Ouch...but better to be uncomfortable doing that now, than being uncomfortable with a much bigger problem later through not doing it! Go Girls!!

When it is time for me to have a baseline, I'm going to request an ultrasound instead. With all the money I had to spend on them, I don't want one popping! LOL

High recommend for the ultrasound - however, hopefully you're like me and can take a nap in the MRI tube. Some people get freaked out and claustrophobic. You're in there a good 30-40 minutes. Also, I believe there is now insurance coverage for breast MRIs - it was limited before - and it isn't cheap. Seems like I recall some ruling being passed recently (but I could be wrong)

I'm a barely-B and it honestly wasn't bad...not like something I'd be looking to do recreationally or anything but it was more pressure than painful and totally tolerable. Didn't even need a Ben&Jerry's "consolation stop" afterwards!

I'm glad to see so many of us are taking care of ourselves...
As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor, I plan to have my first mammogram before I hit 30. (I'm 27 now) I'm not looking FORWARD to it, but cancer runs in my family, so I need to take every effort to make sure I'm healthy!
And Kim, I will totally make the Ben & Jerry's stop afterwards anyway! ;)
(Like all those ice cream stops after getting my braces tightened as a kid! lol)

Been getting them since my mid-20s...and I'm overdo for my current one...it's not a pleasant experience...but the place I go really does try to make it nice...they have an array of low fat and fat free snacks, teas, coffees, lovely decorated waiting rooms...
Unfortunately for me, it is never a quick visit...on average, I have to have the shots taken 2-3 times...
