You don`t need to hide,Maria.Stay here along with me to support our views...and by the way,you forgot to mention most of these are sleazy to the max! Most also have an opening up to waahoo and clearly pointing to raks beaver display

When i see most of these Sahar`s costumes and learn this is what many bellydancers are wearing in Cairo now i can`t help but to undertand why,ohh why almost all Egyptians have that opinion of bellydancers.I don`t blame them at all cause that`s the same way i feel when looking at a dancer in them.Yes,Western,liberal me.

I would feel unable to enjoy the actual dancing per se and if me as an audience member of a bellydancing show could be able to learn in advance that a dancer would wear one of these "gems" i would choose not to watch the performance.

LOL, Sashy!!! I have heard even Egyptians say that they don't like to look at dancers in some of the briefer costumes. NOT all Egyptians seem to think it is OK so shake the booty and boobs in public . . . and when the cup runneth over a la Dina (and I do like to watch her dance so I am not here to point out how disgusting she is . . . because I don't think so even though some ppl do), well, I can imagine what some ppl might think.

Yup,Catherine.As a sort-of-frequent visitor to Egypt and with local friends(not tourism related)there i can tell you that None of them know of my bellydance hobby/obssesion.I prefer to keep that to myself at least for them

when she's good she's good, but when she's bad.... i think most of her stuff is trashy or dorky. the green and the yellow in the group shot are the only ones i like. the bead work on the black and red is gorgeous, but it's too trashy lingerie for me.
and mind you, i don't have a problem with boobiliscious costumes and i like mini-skirts and bike shorts etc, but these are trying too hard.

I look at these costumes the same way I look at things that Britney Spears, Madonna or Cher might wear.

Big stars compete to be different, memorable, more outrageous than the next.

I just want to look pretty & classy, so what they wear has nothing to do with me.

I agree, I'm not too thrilled about the thong costume and the exploding boob bras (luckily I don't have any Sahars that incorporate these design elements!) But not all the costumes I posted are bad, I thought the butterfly costume and the tigress costume and the flower petals costume were nice.

It may be hard to tell, but the high slits do have spandex biker shorts underneath or at least mesh nylon shorts underneath. Well, at the very least, she is adding that to my costumes.

Some of Sahar's costumes are quite extreme, and I haven't seen to many dancers wearing the extreme ones, except for Fatima who has a bad reputation in Cairo. And I'm not talking about the standard low opinion/reputation of dancers in Egypt, her reputation goes beyond that.

You'll have to post pictures when you get them. I'm surprised that the rhinestones fell off. Yes, because Sahar uses flat back rhinestones, they are glued not sewed. This is quite common. I know from conversations with Amani, she told me her costume designer (Ali Reda) glues the stones (at one point I was going to order a costume from Amani). Of all my Sahars, I have never had that happen. Some of them I have performed and practiced in them numerous times and maybe one stone fell out at the maximum. But no more stones fall out of my Sahars then my Emans or other costumes. But its nice that Dahlal is taking it to Egypt to have it re-done for you.

Yes, Debbie said it has not happened with any of her other costumes that she knows of -- I think it's because it is a stretch fabric, almost like latex, so even when you're putting it on, the stretching pulls them off -- none of them came off of the little flat hanging pieces that were covered in rhinestones.

And, by the way, I LOVE this costume -- it is so unusual, and I don't think it's trashy at all -- sexy, yes, but, as I said, IMO kind of elegant -- the color is a muted darkish blue with a hint of leopard, then covered in tiny pink, blue & AB rhinestones. I promise to post pix soon as I am able to....would love to see what you think of it. I am dying to order the Tigress, but it was about $1600 on the Safti site, wasn't it? Is it really $2400 now??

Yes, those prices on Safti's site no longer apply. If you ask Sherif to give you the Safti price, he won't for whatever reason. Those prices are just no longer applicable. Expect to pay double the Safti prices. Yes, according to Lili Gamal who just asked Sherif for a quote the Tigress costume is $2,350.

I'm not sure what happened to your Sahar regarding all those stones falling off. It shouldn't be because the fabric is stretch. Designers use a special crtysal glue that allows fabrics to strech without the stones falling off. But its great that Dahlal is willing to get it re-done for you. Please post pix when you get the costume. I am sure it will be gorgeous!

I'n general, when glued or hot-fixed stones fall of, it's not the glue that fails. The way flatback stoes are made is that there's the actual crystal, then it has a reflective backing painted onto it, so that the stone will sparkle. Usually when a stone falls off, it's because the crystal separates from the backing, not the glue that attaches it to the fabric.

Yes, actually I have that same one, too. Its one of the pictures that I posted. I do consider it a classy costume. I have it in yellow/gold. I think Hala has it in lime green. She also has a two piece black/lime costume and two piece camoflage costume. She looks great in all of them. I think they are real classy on her, too.
