Ya, the ones of Soraya were taken in Sahar's studio and they are EXPENSIVE as I thought of ordering the light colored one that Soraya is wearing but alas they ran out of the fabric and I'm afraid about all the boob cleavage. Definitely you will need boob tape for sure as I am sure Soraya would wear boob tape if she were performing in that costume.

I like that one too, it's very elegant in its own way.
Got to admit though, the green and blue one shows way too much butt cheek for my taste. Watching somebody wearing it, I think I'd be worrying about it falling down and wouldn't be able to watch the dancing :Awhatchutalkingabou

The green skirt looks like it would fall off, but it won't because the skirt is actually sewn to the bikini. Sahar only had fabric left for one, and asked me if I wanted it. But I passed on it as I'm not too crazy about green costumes. Soraya has the same costume, but in purple.

Yes, over the past several years Soraya has changed her look. First, she started wearing only Emans 2003, then she started exclusively wearing Sahars in 2004/2005 to the present day.

The costumes are beautiful, but how many of us could get away with that overly booby look? My boss would have a heart attack, and so would my husband (had I the boobs to wear them, that is).

I find it interesting that costumes such as these garner nary a comment from Bhuzzers who seem to me, at times, to be a generally conservative lot when it comes to the presentation of our danceform to the public.
It seems to me like the more booby- and booty-licious costumes present an image that is at cross-purposes with the image of belly dance that many claim to want to present to the public. Even the most urbane Arab audiences are going to look askance at costumes like that.
So why so little shock and outrage here? Does the appeal of owning a currently uber-trendy designer negate the outrageousness of the costumes?

Those were my same thoughts,TamraHenaTexas, but since i`m way over the age to wear one of those and not a pro-dancer,i did not comment cause did not want to seem like envious or jealous. But yes,i feel they just feed up the image we are always trying to stay away from.I find them sleazy.Sorry, but that`s my opinion.

heh
That butterfly thing with the ruffles? :tounge: or the fluffy flowers one. double eew.
Also the boob focused ones - if you have fake boobs that stay in one place fine. but for the naturally, unenhanced among us - forget it. Not to mention - did I already say - the strappy maximum exposure ones are FRIKKIN UGLY and just bad.
I do like the leopard one - it's humorous but tastefully kitsch. And by the way - I don't care who you are - a bra that squishes your boobs and underarm flab out the side and above toward your arm pit is just a bad idea and too small! get something that fits. I guess if you're trying to be a dancing advertisement for your plastic surgeon there's a point.
Okay - THTX - feel better?

The only point of reference I have on costumes like these is Dina - at least as far as Egyptian dancers - and it seems that she has made it acceptable/fashionable to wear the uber-boob style. The difference to me would be wearing something outrageous on stage where you're at a distance from your audience and being in a restaurant where you're sometimes only a few feet from the patrons. I guess, ultimately, it would depend on the attitude and style of the dancer, where a more demure performance might balance a costume that's really risque. Although I do think no matter what, a lot of the audience is going to be too preoccupied with the, er, view, rather than the dancing.

I wasn't going to comment 'cuz these pics weren't really put up for discussion, they were put up because Christina was offering to help people place orders with Sahar. In that situation, I figure if I don't have something nice to say, I should keep my mouth shut.
But I will say that when I saw Soraya and Hanadi in Cairo, they were wearing Sahar's costumes, and they weren't THAT far away from the audience.
I love some of the Sahar costumes I've seen. But these don't appeal to me.

Didn't mean to criticize, I was just answering TH why some of us conservative-costume types hadn't commented!
