Whoop! I got on the scale this morning to have a base line to see if I loose anything while in Toronto for 2 weeks - and have lost 2 pounds! Now I'm back to my previous all-time high, not above it (if that makes any sense). I hope I can come back a couple of pounds lighter - all that dancing should have some effect I hope! I leave on Saturday. I haven't been dieting - just paying more attention to portions and fitting in time at the gym more often and drinking lots of water. So it seems to be working. Now it's time to make another little change. My next change will be to increase the exercise, and I will start that plan by visiting the gym in the hotel every morning before breakfast while I'm away. Now I've put it into writing I've got to do it! My challenge will be eating in restaurants for 2 weeks. My plan is to keep healthy things in the mini fridge in my room and eat out of my room as much as possible instead of in restaurants. I hope that having this plan in my head ahead of time will help me stay on track.

Good going, JMC!
It's so great to have a mini-fridge when you're in a hotel - I also use it so that if the dinner I order at the restaurant is way bigger than I need to eat, I take it with me and have the leftovers for lunch the next day. I also make sure I have plenty of healthy snacks in the room so that I don't have to impulsive grab high calorie snacks while attending my event, and so that I don't get so starved between meals that I over-order by the time I get to the restaurant.

Well I feel I should post here that I finally broke the "plateau" where I have been stuck and unable to go below for the past 2 weeks and dropped a half pound. I know it doesn't sound like much, but the total I am trying to lose is less than ten, so it's substantial to me.
Gettin' closer!

heh
To me, 1/2 pound is miraculous! but then, I'm losing .25 pounds per week these days! and tonite - I blew my diet out of the water. I'm hoping actually it will do a "shock" to my system and get me back on track. Unfortunately, my friends keep wanting to celebrate my graduation and it always involves food - tonite I gave in and ate chips and a two bites of red velvet cake (my favorite). literally two bites had me hanging my head in shame. The scale will probably register 3 pounds heavier tomorrow!

Well if it makes you feel any better, the day before I broke the plateau I had two Hershey's Kisses... (cheap chocolate..so not worth it!)

Coo, well done Lilla - that half pound must feel like a big breakthrough just to go below where the damn scales have been stuck for so long must be such apsychological boost.
I've got a point I haven't been below for literally years - I'm two pounds off it right now and when I break below that particular barrier I'll tell you, I'll be jumping for joy

now I feel like I'm bragging...
I guess there really is a phenomenon of breaking the plateau, because after several weeks of feeling literally stuck, now this morning my scale has dropped an additional 2 pounds! In other words, I'm now weighing 2.5 pounds below my plateau weight from two days ago.
I have not been starving myself in the last two days, just eating sensibly. So there must be some mechanism by which the body "gets ready" to let go of the extra weight, and then suddenly does it all at once, because for two weeks I haven't been able to lose anything.
Either that or my scale is playing games again, but my hip and waist measurements are slightly smaller too, (and my pants feel less tight) so I'm pretty sure it's for real.
So now I'm 6 lbs. down from where I started when I joined this thread. If I lose about another 5 lbs., I think I'd be happy maintaining in that range. Whoopee... feelin' like it's around the bend! (After the next plateau, that is!)

I dropped another pound...down to 144!!! And I really feel thin now. I can really see it in my torso and my lower half is catching up. My body feels so different now that I workout like crazy and my butt, hips and uppper thighs have changed shape slightly - all the time spent on the elliptical, I think!
It is a really good feeling!

Woohoo... yay Damiena!
I fit comfortably back into one of my beaded, unstretchy costumes last night, and felt good wearing it! I still have about five lbs. to go (so I can fit into the ones with the smaller bras and tighter belt hooks) but for the first time in the last few months, I felt confident performing without feeling like I was bulging out of my costume or trying to hide my pudge.
Even still, a waitress at the restaurant where I filled in who hasn't seen me in a couple of years said "You've gained a little weight, huh? Looks good!" (She's always been like that... constantly commenting on everyone's bodies.. whatever...) But even that didn't get me down, because I feel lighter, it's easier to dance, and my costumes feel better, so yay!

oh jeez
I think you should have said something like, "Yeah, a little, and I see you're even tackier."
PS - progress for the week - I lost another 4 ounces...not seeing any of that whoppping 1/2 pound difference in my body the past two weeks other than in my face which seems to be continuing to lose it's puffy, chipmunk cheek look (new profile pic from yesterday - still not motivated to wear make-up though :))
I'm really just glad that my mini-binge this week didn't make me gain.

We bought a snazzy new scale...the only problem is that it is weighing two pounds heavier than the old one. So, I am 144 on the one and 146 on the other, but I am not going to stress about which one is right because I feel really good and I am noticing a really big difference in my abs all of a sudden!

Lilla, wonderful, good for you. Ihate to say this, but sometimes people think you (the generic "you") are too thin and will personal comments. Possilby she thought she was being complimentary?
I haven't weighed this week, but think I'm hovering right around where I was, my clothes fit exactly the same, so...

It's quite possible she meant no offense at all. There is a cultural aspect (she's Persian, and some Persians I have met are similar to my own culture - Italian - in that they discuss others' weight openly) and she went on to say how she thinks it looks so nice to have the curves, that she has been trying to gain weight but can't no matter how much she eats.
However, I am still plenty curvy five pounds lighter than this, and I feel better, so I'm stickin' to my plan.
I am very proud of myself today, for taking my son and his friend out for ice cream (we walked) and I didn't get any for myself, just watched them eat theirs and then had some watermelon when I got home. This is quite an accomplishment for me, as ice cream is my downfall!

I've been bouncing around and got back down to where I was a couple of weeks ago. No real inches lost, either.
BUT somehow my body just looks & feels better to me. I feel thinner. In fact, I feel downright sexy! I don't really understand it, but I'm enjoying it!

It's kinda crazy but I think we can feel the progress no matter how small it is (just like we feel the little bumps up). I think when you hit the point you feel really good about yourself - you're there!

Waaaaa it's not fair!!!
This is my first week and I've been nice and sensible - smaller portions, no treats, cut right down on the alcohol, did six hours extra exercise....
