Camille, I'm using old-fashioned calorie counting, tracking everything on Fitday.com (free!) and shooting for 1400-1600 calories/day.

Well I can't participate but I will support....

My husband and I built a house in 2004 and in 11 months I gained 21 lbs ! and it took me 2 years to lose it ! I am now back at a health 139 'ish' So you all can do it...
What worked for me..
Each no more than a hands full of food evey 2 hours. No bread as side food. Fruit only in in afternnoons. No DutchBros' [coffee house coffee] and lots of water. I am maintaining now with SouthBeach. Another trick since my husband and I like to eat out... I order a to go box with my meal. Before I start eating I put half in the box, close it and push it away. It becomes lunch the next day. My husband now refers me as his "cheap date - 2 for the price of 1"

So good luck to all of you...

congrats!

This is such a no brainer idea that I never thought of til you mentioned it!

"Before I start eating I put half in the box, close it and push it away. It becomes lunch the next day"

By the way, everyone - we will keep the general great bhuz weight challenge on this thread and use the group only for posting details as you wish.

I think people are frustrated by the groups thing so if we keep the discussion here but the "secret facts" or other "prefer to keep on the LD" stuff in the group, then you only have to really check one place regularly.

Camille,

I'm doing Jenny Craig but essentially it gets back to what Lauren and others are doing - counting calories and watching certain things in the diet like sugar & carbs.

The Jenny Craig plan is based on Volumetrics so if you google for that you can get an idea what it's about. I find that the money I spend on Jenny Craig every week for food - about $120 - is cheaper than buying groceries and my lunch and lattes when I'm not on a diet. But, it is a chunk of change. It's working though, I gotta say - the weight's coming off and I'm learning about portion control (one of those d'oh things I just never really got into my head before).

Thanks for being willing to use the thread for those of us who have trouble with the group.

I have 5.8lbs to lose according to the weight tracker thingy, but I know I won't use it!

The box idea has worked for me pretty well over the years. Sometimes, if it's something really not healthy for me, I just eat half and leave the rest--no box.

I've been struggling with sodium. My blood pressure is a bit too high--not horrible or medication worthy, but it concerns me. I know I am very sensitive to sodium--I easily retain water. I don't eat much in the way of processed foods, but when I go out to eat, it seems like EVERYTHING is really salty. I don't put a lot of table salt on foods, either. However, if I go out to eat, it seems like I retain about a pound of water the next morning.
Then, I try to eat fruit and veggies and other healthy foods the next day, along with a lot of water to clear myself out. Then things are back in balance.

How do I avoid sodium when I eat out?

Rach,

A good start is to tell waiters "no salt" - that may seem no brainer but I think chefs often season food at the end so they should be able to manage "no salt" requests. Of course - it all depends on the restaurant and how much preprep they do and yadda yadda.

I weigh myself first thing in the AM and that's what I track. I don't bother with all of the fluctuations throughout the day.

I don't know of anyone else on Jenny Craig. I wondered if it worked or not. It's the money that would be tough for me.

I'm so much of an emotional eater! Is anyone else one as well? I try to divert my attention or replace the food with some other activity but it's SOOOO HARD!!!!!

But for this, I'll try even harder since now everyone knows and will shame me to bits if I do it again! LOL!

I am in too! I have lost 7 pounds, 13 more to go! My goal is to be a size 6, but I know that since I am strength training and building muscle, I may hit the size goal weighing more than the weight goal.

I have no problem posting pics! This one was taken about a month ago. Note the lovely chubbiness around the waist - blech!

I will try to get my husband to take a pic this weekend (and hopefully in a similar pose!) so I can post my progress thus far. From the strength training, I am noticing a lot more definition in my arms, legs and abs.

I have already had to alter this belt to be an inch smaller!! I have to make sure I try on everything I plan on wearing before I perform, leaving enough time to modify hooks, if needed!

I am using calorie-count.com to track everything I eat and all my activity.

Yay!

I've lost a pound since Sunday. I"m hoping it is 2 by the time I weigh in officially at Jenny Craig next Sunday (it's unlikely - but maybe another .5 pound is possible).

Here's a photo progress check - really I'm seeing it in my face more than anywhere else just yet but all my pants are loose so it must be shedding elsewhere too!

Ok, I would like to join too! Everybody posting their results has me inspired. I was at about 143 at my heaviest, went up and down around Christmas and now I finally got it together and am at 130. I would like to let go of another 10 before bikini time gets here.

I believe for me, hard core exercise is the key. I used to count performing and regular classes as exercise but obviously it's not enough. So now I hit the gym 5 days a week (40 mins of cardio and 20 mins lifting) but it is sooooo boring. Anybody else bored to tears while doing cardio?

I hate cardio. Even with my mp3s I could barely stand 30min, twice a week (which wasn't enough anyway). Ugh. The weights I didn't mind so much.

What is working for me is walking. I started walking to work 3 or 4 days a week. It's 40 minutes each way, and with my music on, I really enjoy it. Plus counting calories, that's made a big difference, too.
