Tomorrow is my last day of work, and my co-worker and I have set a 5 day a week 10 a.m. workout schedule. Three days of cardio and weights, two days of cardio only. Our goal is to be unrecognizable by th end of the summer (both of us got married last July and gained 20 lbs- if anyone wants to keep weight off dont get married! ;)

Im at 140 this morning. Which I guess is good because Im PMSing like a mofo and have a lot of water weight. If I can get (and stay) under 140 Im going to be SOOOO happy. At 135 Id be so happy. At 130 Id be delighted. At 120?? I wont even go there yet.

This sounds like a great plan! Having a workout buddy is a great motivator. Good luck! 120, here you come!

Oh, it's July? Good!

Well, I've decided I'm not suffering from scale gremlins -- I'm actually putting on weight again, and fast. Amazing how fast it goes back on if I fudge around with even a hundred calories per day! So it's back on the wagon with me...

Yep - me two the past two days I've been mega stressing on the last bit of my paper and some deadlines at work so I have been eating an extra yogurt and a couple extra fruit & veggie servings as snacks.....put on a pound.

I've been eating anything and everything the last few days. I simply have NOT been paying attention.

Im so happy today. I havent lost any weight that I can tell from the scale, but I can tell in my stomach and face that Ive lost a few. I really like my body like this. So much so that I think Ill keep 135 as my goal weight. I *like* being a juicy dancer (love love love Bahaia's figure). But I wanna be juicy not lumpy ;)

Ok, as of this morning I've officially put five pounds back on. And I did it the way I always do it, giving in to evening carb cravings.

Even with the snacking, according to Fitday I'm eating 500+ calories less than I'm burning each day -- which should result in a pound a week of weight loss. Yet I've gained 5 pounds in a week (and no, it's not water, cuz it's not fluctuating but increasing daily).

I'm allergic to carbs, they make me break out in fat.

I hate scale gremlins. How can I possibly gain 2 or 3 pounds in 8 hours? I don't even eat that much weight in food in 8 hours, but according to my scale, my weight often fluctuates that much from morning to night, or from night to morning. I even bought a new scale, and the gremlins took up residence in that one too.
BTW Has anybody tried Dairy Queen Fudge Bars? Not that I can get them here, but itīs nice to know that someone has finally made something CHOCOLATE that tastes good and has few calories, apparently only 45. I found a thread about them here:

yep

Carbs are my deadly sin too. Lauren, the other thing is our misjudging how much we actually excercise/output each day. YOu teach so much though - but maybe you are breaking into the teaching to instruct verbally more than you think? Do you have a pedometer? It would at least gauge footsteps.

I haven't been wearing my pedometer but I need to start.

Interestingly, I was just reading an article somewhere saying that the most crucial thing to weight loss is to not eat for at least 3 hours before bedtime. According to this article, even if you eat carefully all day, nighttime snacking can undo it all. The explanation was that while we sleep, the body burns calories. If we are digesting while we sleep, the body does that instead and doesn't burn any calories. If the body can't utilize everything that we are digesting while we sleep, it converts to fat.

I love to snack in the evening....a little bite before bedtime....but I do notice that when I get myself in the habit of eating nothing from dinner time on, that is when I most easily lose weight. As soon as I start the nighttime snacking again (especially bready carbs!) the extra pounds start to come back.

So my two biggest rules for myself right now are: 1) no evening snacking, and 2) brisk exercise every day (aside from teaching, which I think my body is too accustomed to for it to count as exercise).

Don't lose heart Lauren!

Thanks for that tidbit Lilla...I too like to snack at night.

Allright, I'm committing. No evening snacking!

If I let myself, I can easily take in 1/3 of my daily calories AFTER dinner. Hubby says I'm a nocturnal feeder. It's my weakest time of day, and probably just a bad habit. I'll approach like I did quitting smoking.

LOL! .

I know that for me, once I get in the habit of eating after dinner/throughout the evening, if I don't snack I end up getting very hungry by bedtime, and sometimes even having trouble sleeping because I'm hungry. But if I stop eating by 8 pm-ish (assuming I'm going to bed at 11 pm) and let myself deal with the hunger for a few nights, my body gets used to a different pattern and the hunger pangs go away.

If I really need to snack because I didn't have enough for dinner or something, I try to limit it to a couple of strawberries or a few baby carrots. I don't know if that's scientifically correct, but so far it hasn't resulted in any scale jumps.

I don't know what the deal is in cultures where the nightly meal is at 9 pm or after, but there must be some other variables in those cases that counteract the weight gaining effect....like they spend all day walking or something...?

blah

I'm stuck this week - no loss it appears. maybe a couple of ounces but that was just from putting on a couple of ounces and then back to normal. I hope by next week I'll have something to report, or maybe I'll miraculously drop a pound by tomorrow's official weigh in day.

I guess I should be happy I didn't gain. I went out to dinner last night and while I was good, I had 3 glasses of wine. small food portions though. So, I'll just thank gods for the small favors of not putting on any poundage.

How'd everyone else do?

I had a crazy weight week. I gained 5 pounds over 3-4 days, then it mysteriously disappeared overnight. (and yes, I'm comparing first-thing-in-the-morning weights, and no, nothing cycle-related).

Then I lost another pound. So I've wound up a pound lower than I started, and pretty flippin' happy about it!!!

Well, I down only one pound this whole month - to 132. I was losing quite fast for a while there, but it seems to be slowing down...

I could be quite happy at this weight though, as long as I didn't start gaining again
