I've pretty much given up on sizes. I think each manufacturer tacks on whatever size the spirit moves him to tack on, based on nothing.
I recently ordered some Abercrombie & Fitch jeans online in a size 7 and they were huge. So I compared them to a REAL size 7 jeans that I had stored away in a box from the 70's, and the size difference was significant. No way those new Abercrombies were a size 7, more like a 12. Lately I've had to order smaller and smaller label sizes of clothing to be able to get them to even come close to a size 7/8 or even 9/10 (large ass syndrome here too) which is what I've always worn.
Regards
Priscilla

Yeah, how could I weigh 10-15lbs more than I did in high school yet I wear the same size?

Ditto. And the scale reveals every extra snack. Grr.
Tomorrow it's back to logging every morsel that enters my mouth via Weight Watcher's Points. Otherwise, I can't seem to reign myself in.
Is it just me, or do any of you find it's all or nothing? If I'm following my points perfectly - I lose. The moment I give myself the tiniest bit of freedom, I go overboard.

Adi,
That has always been me. In fact, I cannot buy trigger foods at all - if I buy a beautiful delicious loaf of challah bread for example - I'll eat the whole frikkin thing by the end of the day. Same with ice cream.
But, I have to say this diet I'm on is really revolutionizing the way I eat. I've had two nights now of eating out this weekend at neither time did I eat bread or anything that wasn't on my approved list. I stuck to fresh seafood with no sauces - just grilled and vegetables. I did drink some wine but that's not really forbidden.
My weight loss may be eeking down 1/2 a pound per week, but it's livable and it seems to be consistent.

I have some issues with certain foods like that, too.
Potato chips of any variety. (I can ignore tortilla chips for days, weeks, even months.)
Jelly Bellies. (I must eat the entire package, regardless of the size.)
Peanut Butter.
Nuts. (I can only buy the teeny little bag of cashews from the vending machine at work at that has 700 grams of fat and 7000 calories already)
These items cannot be in the house.

you can use fitday.com for calories & fitness tracking. I like that site - I think Lauren uses a different one that she likes better....?

I just had a photo shoot this weekend. I was horrified to see the photos. I have severe body image issues. What was on the photographs is NOT what I see in the mirror everyday. I had no idea I looked like that! Well, I am down 6lbs as of today. It's a start.

I use fitday, too. Love fitday.
I also use dietfacts.com because you can look up all sorts of restaurant & name brand foods and add them to fitday just by clicking a button.

another reality check
Well, my standby rules have been reinforced again. I let myself snack in the evening for a few days, and my weight started to creep up again even though the snacks were healthy and calorically conservative. I stopped it for two nights, and the weight came down again. Maybe I can get away with evening snacking when I'm maintaining my weight, but not when I'm trying to lose.
Also a few days without my brisk 45 min. walk, and the weight loss stalls. Even if I teach.
I don't have a lot of weight to lose, and that may be why my body keeps wanting to jump back to the level where it has gotten comfy for the last few months. But when half my costumes are snug at the hip and busting out at the bra, it's time to get real!
This thread has been great for keeping up my morale..... (Waah..where's the little cheerleader icon? Did someone take it away because we were over-using it? )

I have to get new batteries for my scale as the number hasn't moved in a week.
When you have stopped laughing...
This is a real issue. I weighed myself dressed today, it gave me a weight. I took a quick bath, did not wash my hair, and weighed myself unclothed and the scale said the same weight.
This is an expensive scale. Me thinks it's time to change the batteries.

sucks don't it?
I admit - I overindulged in wine on the weekend to celebrate my whole school thing. sure 'nuf - Monday I was up a pound and a half. I'm hoping to hvae it off by Thursday. I have to really really be careful, although I am thinking differently now which is, "oh, hey, I'm up today, better watch it for the next day or two..." instead of, "OH HELL, I'm a pound heavier today - where's the chocolate?"
ps - there she is.

That IS the key, isn't it? I think just maintaining that attitude can only result in success in the long run.....
Okay - I found her again...she was just relocated!

definitely
The mind reset is probably the best thing that's going for me right now considering the weight loss is so slow.
I've noticed three big mind changes: 1) small portions or amounts frequently. just a teeny yogurt, fruit or veggie, satisfies; and 2) smaller portions. I don't need to eat a ton of food. a few bites will suffice if it's the right combo of protein and veggie, and 3) NO bread outside what might be incorporated into my meal.

I think one good side effect of this process -- especially using a food log like the one at calorie-count.com -- is that it makes one much more aware of making food choices. Now my thought process goes, "Gee, I'm feeling hungry. What are my options?" instead of just grabbing something. The mind changes are indeed important!!
