I totally blew it yesterday - I drank all afternoon - went to a little pool party and proceeded to drink about 4 or 5 glasses of wine. very NOT Jenny Craig. I'm paying for it this morning. monster headache and a pound extra on the scale.

Social events are a real no-no for me right now. I have to stop doing them. My will power around wine is ZERO. around food I'm okay, but not the grape.

Well, Sumaya, you know it's all in how you carry it to a certain point and what's muscle v. fat.

But, as a yardstick, the best weight for me at 5'6" is 145. I'm only shooting for 150 right now but 145 is a very nice weight on my height - it's not thin, just a good healthy weight.

The charts however, tell me to weigh 120-150. nice 30 pound range there!
What's your range, have you checked?

Not any easier mind you - in fact, I think it's harder in lots of ways. The more you have to lose the more you do lose initially and that gets the motivation going. The fewer to lose, the more the battle.
Yeah, I've been working soooo hard to lose the four lbs. I've lost so far (and they've popped up and down even at that) that the remaining 6-10 that I'd like to lose feel an eternity away. I think everyone's body carries weight differently, and on some just a few extra pounds can be significant...and significantly hard to shed! It's so easy to get comfortable where you are, and your body decides it wants to hang onto that weight too. Then it becomes a slippery slope...

Thanks Kina - ...I kind of like the first photo myself, and would think I looked fine if that was my normal weight. It's just that at that weight, I can only wear three of my costumes, and I have to do a lot of "camoflaging", sucking in my stomach, etc. that I don't have to bother with at my normal weight! I really don't want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe of street clothes and costumes...(well, maybe you could twist my arm on the new costumes... )

I can relate... I feel like I was starving all day yesterday running from one gig to the next, I danced, I walked up a big hill made sure I didn't eat after dinner and went to bed hungry. I'm up a pound today.

I think if I weren't participating in this group, I'd be sorely tempted to eat an entire Green & Black's chocolate bar today! Willpower...willpower....

Not necessarily, as Dani said, it's how your body carries it. Mine carries it in my upper back, boobs and belly :Acry:

And if you're very muscular, it could very well be muscle weight.

Grrr...my weight is back up a pound to 146 - probably because I had a few martinis Saturday night and we had a family function on Sunday and some of my food choices were not the wisest! I am 5"7' and a size 8, but I have a small frame, so the extra weight looks gooshier on me.

However, I am working harder this week and last night I beat my hubby in a friendly little "who can burn the msot calories on the elliptical" challenge!

Excuse the odd expression, but this was taken this past Saturday night.

Well, I weighed in today, lost 2 lbs, cheated, because I should not have weighed myself until Sunday, so daily fluctuations don't make make me despair, but I lost 2 lbs!!!! I'be been working out daily, will give myself Friday and Saturday as rest days and will start again next week. next official weigh in is Sunday.

Damiena, you look great!

Kina - thank you for the compliment. And I know what you mean about cheating...I try to weigh myself only once a week, but that scale...well, it just lures me in and I have to do it! I am hopeful that my one pound gain will be gone by the weekend!

I drank and ate way too much last sunday and even monday but....I have stayed the same weight. I think that's the benefit of a plateau - there had to be one!

I still have my fingers crossed for another pound by Sunday's official Jenny Craig weigh in. At last week's weigh in, we calculated that I've lost a steady 4.5 pounds per month...that's totally okay really. I haven't suffered and that means I'll be well at my goal weight by my birthday in December.

Okay...what's with electronic scales?

I finally caught my scale red-handed, being whimsical. I got up this morning, weighed in, then went to sit down and check emails. Just for kicks, knowing that I had not drank any water or taken a bite of anything, and with the exact same pjs on, I weighed myself again, and it was up by half a pound.

This makes no sense whatsoever! I don't think my scale is completely batty, It doesn't say I weigh 39 pounds or 395, but there is no way I gained half a pound just by being awake. I think I want one of those old fashioned medical scales with the counterweight on it!

Update: now I have had a few gulps of water, stepped on the scale, and gained another half pound. So I've gained a full pound since getting out of bed, without even eating breakfast yet!

over 50 pounds

Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone on this thread is like me in needing to loose 50 pounds or more? I feel overwhelmed by the sheer idea of needing to loose this much weight, and have a hard time even getting started because I dieted myself up to this weight in the first place. I started my first diet when I was in my early-twenties and hit 130 pounds. Since then it's been one diet after another, followed by a 10-15 pound weight gain until here I am - middle-aged, 60 pounds overweight and terrified to go on another diet for fear of ending up even heavier yet. I wish I had never started the first diet all those years ago. Now, I go to the gym and eat healthy during the week but I have not seriously started to count calories because of this fear of ending up even heavier - but do know I have to impliment a plan. Anybody else out there relating to this?

Hi Hi Hi!!! I have even more than 50 to lose! I didn't joing the "competition" thing because I have an eating disorder and that would just be completely counter-productive for me. BUT, I have been lurking and reading so I can try to motivate myself.

It's very daunting to me to have so much to lose, so much so that there are days that I can only hold it together for one meal at a time. I am trying not to get discouraged though and to focus on the postive things I am doing for myself now instead of eating myself , well...to death.

I have found that making small changes has been best for me. Easier to implement than a major overhaul of my entire lifestyle at once. The most recent one I made was ceasing to "treat" myself with food. I've substituted in getting my nails done or buying a new pair of earrings or a book or something. Nothing out landishly expensive, but about the same amount of money as I would spend on a brownie and coffee. Still makes me feel good, but doesn't add inches to my waistline.

I'm not personally trying to lose that much weight at this point, but I can sure see where it would be daunting! Take heart, though, it can happen.

I have two students who've lost more than 50 pounds. One lost 60 pounds between last July and about February of this year, now she's maintaining. She did it on Weight Watchers.

The other has lost 75 pounds over a gradual period of about three years. She got serious about 6 months ago and joined Weight Watchers, that helped her restart her loss and she's doing great.

A third student joined weight watchers, too, I don't know how much she lost, but she looked great last time I saw her (she's not currently in class).

I had an employee a few years ago who'd lost about 65 pounds (also on Weight Watchers) and has kept that weight off for 6 or 7 years now.

50 is more than several people have said they need to lose, but I am looking to lose 35 total from my high weight so that's not that far behind you.

It's slow progress, it's very daunting at first - but you just have to do little bits at a time. That's why I'm not going to get freaked out at a slow 4 pound per month loss - it's okay.

It will add up and 6 months from now I will be where I need to be.

You can do it - embrace going slowly and making real changes instead of quick fixes. I've lost more weight than an elephant in my life - I'm really interested now in making permanent livable changes!

I think that whether it's 50 pounds or 5 pounds, it can be daunting to have to put one's focus constantly on every bit of food and every bit of exercise, and in both cases discouragement is common. It's one of those things that just requires determination and resolve to find the best, healthiest solution, develop daily habits that make a difference, and the understanding that the benefits and visible results may not show for awhile, but it can be done.

I only have a few pounds to lose but I've been working on it for two months and I'm only down by 3.5 pounds, so it feels like a huge task. But I've been the weight I want to be before (just a few months ago as a matter of fact) so I know I can be there again by putting my focus on it. Having the support of a group is great!
