Body stockings for dancers of color?

Does anyone know of a supplier with a range of skin tones?

THANK YOU!!!!!

I've looking high and low and inbetween and inside out... bupkus!

The only thing I can think of is to go into the city to one of the beauty supply places that cater to African-Americans like King's Beauty Supply. I think I'll go to my usual haunt at Mimi's Beauty Supply at Northwest Plaza tomorrow and find out. I'll get the name and other info for you!

Is it possible to dye stockings? I dunno. I'm pulling straws here.

Also, it can be frustrating when I see a great costume in every which way but it has cutouts with "skin" cutouts. I don't know about anyone else but, when I buy a costume, for the price I paid for it, I don't want to have to make any new adjustments other than hooks on the straps and the belt.

Okay... I'm done venting...

for now!

I'm pretty sure that Designs by Janie (http://www.designsbyjanie.com) are able to do body-stockings of different colour, but they can't always source the appropriate colour of mesh. It's worth talking to them about it.

Nylon takes acid dyes very well - it's one of the few synthetics that can be dyed at all. Any dye that would be appropriate for wool will work on it. (So not the fiber-reactive dyes used for cotton)

I would get Procion in a couple of colors like Camel and Chocolate Brown and mix until you get a color that works.

I bought a midriff cover during Rakkasah in New Jersey, RedHotDancewear is on the label. They have a website www.redhotdancewear.com The vendor said various colors are available. Might be worth an email. I saw many items on the website including the midriff covers.

Like Antimony said, you can dye power mesh - I think that Sugar Petals dyes theirs using Rit dye.

There was a link on old bhuz, I think, of a vendor who sold powermesh in a ton of colors - something like 40, a lot - and I wish I could find that link.

I always think how I'd like to make body stockings, and I'd gladly make body stockings in a range of colors to sell to dancers!

Sugar petals ivory nets can be dyed and when you order them she sends you a swatch to use to experiment plus a guide to dying.

Powernet can also be purchased from a variety of sources like spandexhouse.com or tutu.com.

The Sugarpetals I sold was a very rich tan so would suit lighter Afro American skin .
Being Celtic " pale purple - going creamy pink when it's warm" it was just wrong on me. Now I know why it's easier to call us White!

The link I'm thinking of is a vendor sold powermesh, already dyed, by the yard. And they had every color of powermesh you could think of. I might have seen it on tribe and not bhuz.

I found a chocolate brown powernet bodysuit with snap crotch today at Ross, a discount store. IIRC, it was $9.95 and could totally be used for costuming purposes with a little ingenuity. It is a Delta Burke, and they had a 1X, a 2X and a 3X. Seams up the center-back and at the side waist. Sheer in front. Since I happened to remember this thread, I snapped a pic on my cell phone.

argh!
stupid cellphone camera.

anyway, it was kind of like this one on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.com/DELTA-BURKE-CHOC...QQcmdZViewItem

But they actually look nicer in real life. Maybe that person has a crummy camera like me. The one I saw at Ross is closer to this color: http://cgi.ebay.com/DELTA-BURKE-BRA-...QQcmdZViewItem
