Hi guys;I;m making a Ghawazee costume 'and would like to use the same bra to dance tribal in ' after i remove the Ghawazee jacket I figure i could then just throw on my tribal belt and fishnet gauntlets to dance with the drummers. So my question is can i do this;and is there anything;i should or should not; use to decorate bra with ?I know that some of the tribal movments come from Ghawazee; So can i make a tribal /ghawazee bra?

if you're going for the orientalistic paintings-ghawazee look with the gauze shift undferneath, a coin bra might create strange bumps underneath the fabric. If you're going for the decorated bra with ghawazee-vest look, a bra decorated with tribal coins/kuchi would be fine. It's a western fantasy look, so you can wear whatever you want and decorate it how you see fit. Or are you performing in a troupe?

I like ghawazee costumes because they have clear, smooth lines and are not designed with layers and layers of fabric/jewelry like the ATS look. Keep it simple and balance the decoration on your bra with your belt. What kind of belt/hipscarf are you wearing with the ghawazee/tribal costume?

Well you aren't gonna be totally authentic anyway are you?
We covered a bra with matching material to our tunics as.... erm we weren't going bare breated under a gauzy blouse or not! You can see the costume in my gallery: Blonde Ghawazee I think I called the photo and I'm sure you can reach the photo from my profile page. The material had a paisley design but you could do stripes or plain satin with a trim.
Yes you could have a blouse under your tunic or vest with a flesh coloured bra. but then that would have to stay on!
We also have assuit covered bras in our wardrobe which give a hint of authentic and these go both with skirts and melodias.
We danced mostly recognized tribal steps as well as Ghawazee to Egyptian gypsy music and hoped we fused a bit of ancient and modern. Sounds like you are trying to do something similar.

I'm a tunic and chemise girl myself. I have a couple different photos in my gallery if you want examples. However what you're talking about is a nice looking tried and true little combo. It is no where near authentic but it looks good! It will work so long as you're not dancing at a Ren Faire or something. :-)

Yes I;m looking at doing a bit of fusion say Ghawazee/tribalGypsy.I haven;t decided on the belt for the Ghawazee costume yet;I already have a full circle black cotton skirt;and I;m making a long velvet Ghawazee jacket in a scarlet colour ; that has a low U top'like sits under the bust.the jacket will come to waist level then will have panels that come down about 3/4 down the skirt.A freind has given me a tribal belt i thought i could use when I;m dancing with the drummers;after i remove my Ghawazee jacket of course does this sound ok? thanks everyone for your help stef

Yes, you can. This is belly dance and really, anything goes! Do what you want. If you want to keep to some tradition, then it would be fine to use a ghawazee for tribal since tribal styling is partly influenced by Egyptian folkloric. Seriously it doesn't even matter anymore, now in Egypt, Randa Kamal dances with Isis wings! So "anything goes!!"
