New sewing magazine: SewStylish

I'm a long-time subscriber to Threads, and I just got a 1-yr subscription to their new magazine Sew Stylish. The very first issue I got made me think some here might like to check it out. It's a "runway ready" issue about making dramatic gowns, with tips on:

--sewing and arranging paillettes
--hemming and seaming sheers
--sewing pre-sequined fabrics

You get where I'm coming from? Unfortunately they don't have that great a website, but they do have a blog here.

Check it out!

Was that the same issue that had the article about bra cups and adjusting them for proper fit/look? Very useful article with tips for different bossom problems.

Oooh! That sounds interesting! I'm a long time subscriber to Threads too, but didn't sign up for SewStylish. I don't remember, but probably assumed it would just be more of the same. Does it claim to be different in some way from Threads?

It seems to be aimed at slightly less experienced sewers or more casual sewers. Some articles appear to be repeats from THREADS with different photos. I picked up a copy at Joanns because of the bra cup fitting article but THREADS seems to have more "meat" to it.

The thing that seems different between SewStylish and Threads is that SS seems to be focusing on one kind of sewing per issue. (Of course I say this having gotten ONE issue.)

And I guess I don't agree on the "less experienced sewer" idea, because the red carpet issue is full of couture gown touches, discussing different ways to handle underlinings, boning, sheers, et cetera. I don't think a beginning sewer would know what to do with them.

Actually I got that slant about less experienced sewers from their first issue in the spring of 2007 wher ethe purpose of the publication and its approach was laid out. Articles talked about how to handle projects step-by-step, offered tips on how to layout fabric, how to cut, baiscs. And an additional "how to sew" extra booklet. I gathered that it was going to have a beginning to end project approach to guide sewers through the whole process rather than the variety of articles with a more experienced approach that THREADS often takes.

Huh! Well! Perhaps their editorial focus is a bit... mutable?

Or perhaps they realized that it's people really interested in sewing who buy magazines... in other words, people who have done it for a while?
