Paws/under costume wear
I have a costume with slits up both sides (to the waist) & need to find dance boy shorts or something similar that are a nude color.
Also need to find paws (cover the front part of the foot for practicing). Suggestions? Know Capezio has a version of paws, but want to find what works best for others.

I love the Capezio FootUndeez. They're comfortable, and relatively inexpensive compared to other similar products.
I know a lot of people like Dance Paws, but I don't like the toe openings, and they're expensive. The Bloch FootThong, and Capezio half soles in my opinion are pretty useless. They're bulky and I don't like the way they sit on my foot.

I like the undeez as well...but they were kind of tight and uncomfortable the first handful of times I wore them, but once I started wearing them regularly (like for ballet classes) I don't even notice them anymore.
As for hot pants I have had no luck. I've only found jazz shorts in black...so I'd like to know too!

I like the dance paws myself. I have a few pair and one them them is finally going to have to be replaced after 3 years of use for performances and class. They seem really sturdy to me and the toe parts don't bother me.
On the underwear part, doesn't lrose make some dance undies? Cheerleading danceshorts/underwear are good too.

I have dance paws but only wear them occassionally. As for dance undies, I would either try a dance store -- if they don't carry what you want, they can order something for you or Victoria's Secret. I got some seamless nude boy shorts from Vicky's this winter to wear under costumes -- they're soft and comfortable and sit on my upper hip perfectly.

There are at least three different models of the Bloch FootThong--I really like FootThong III. There are things that go between each toe, but they are leather and not elastic so they don't bind like the Dance Paws can. I like that the under the ball of the foot section is all one piece, as opposed to the two pieces of the FootUndeez, which had a way of being not quite in the right places on my foot. I also found the quality of the FootUndeez to be variable--one pair lasted about 8 months, another pair lasted about 6 weeks. I'm starting to think about replacing my FootThongs at about the 11 month mark.
Hate Capezio half soles, maybe it's just my feet but the big seam at the front kept being under the front edge of the ball of my foot. I'm not sure they're intended for people who will be going up on the ball of their foot a lot.

These aren't nude (though you'll find plenty of nude shorts/dance briefs at discountdancesupply) but I wonder how they'd work under costumes? Liquid metallic booty shorts!

Maybe a stupid question but what's the difference between hotpants and boyshorts, or aren't there any?
And any ideas on where to get those in Europe?

thank you all for all your input. Will check out those sites. Wore the dance undewear from cheerleading/years of dance and they were too form fitting. Glad to know there are more choices out there now

It depends upon the individual, possibly. But in my mind hot pants are shorter than boyshorts, but longer than booty shorts. I'm sure other people have different concepts.
I'd honestly hesitate to wear nude undergarments unless there is no other choice or not a chance the skirt would fly up. I DO keep a nude pair and a black pair in my bag, but that's for emergencies.
Recently at a performance where the dancer was wearing a costume with built in, very secure, but nude color panties the audience SWORE they were seeing just HER and there were numerous comments: "her costume was too cheeky", "she flashed me and she was shaved!" and (my personal favorite) "like the underside of a Barbie".
I've heard American Apparel has all sorts of colors in boyshorts. Cheerleading and dance stores carry colored undershorts and briefs/trunks. When all else fails try bathing suit bottoms- they're shiny, come in full bottom and/or shorts styles, and are available in lots of colors.
The 70s and 80s style Egyptian costumes used to come with matching sequin low-rise full bottom panties. They were MADE to be seen and obviously part of the costume.

I got these:
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html...sin=B000FIE5Y4
They work well; however they aren't natural fibers so I don't like how they feel after a couple sets (if you know what I mean). I'd love to find these with at least a cotton crotch!

call tina at centerstage - if she doesn't have it in the shop, she can order just about anything for you.
for the unders, i might try calling dina costume goddess and having her make you a pair. she has swatches of powermesh etc. in lots of different skin tones. my thought here being that you might want a lg with a smooth raw hem, rather than a bulkier folded and seamed edge.

Also, if you have a Robinson-May department store where you are they sell nice spandex boy shorts. I use those for my costumes that have high slide slits on both sides.

I also recomend that the underwear be the color of the costume. (unless of course you have nude cut outs in the cotume and the undies would show where they are not suppose to)
If the undies are the color of the costume- it will just look like you are "covered" rather than look like you are exposing naughty bits.

Honestly if I had a high end costume with the need for nude parts (say on the thighs) I'd buy two pair of boyshorts or costume panties, one nude and one the costume color. Then I'd "frankenstein" them together- putting the nude part where it would show and leaving the rest costume color. It wouldn't take long to do, and then you wouldn't have to worry about anything showing that shouldn't be showing or anyone thinking they're seeing naughty bits.

AND you could add a personalized message: http://neighborhoodies.com/hotpants-p-42.html
Maybe a business could pay extra for an advertisement?
