Teeth whitening, anyone?

Has anyone had his/her teeth whitened using one of the laser-type whitening processes?

If you've had this done, did you encounter any problems with your tooth and/or gum health following the procedure?

I'm thinking about having this done . . .

I have. I am a dental assistant.

It's not a laser, it's just a very bright halogen-type light. I would suggest only doing the Zoom! process.
You may have some tooth sensitivity during or after the procedure. I would suggest getting a high concentration fluoride toothpaste from your dentist and using it to brush your teeth with everyday for about a week BEFORE you whiten.
Let me know how it turns out!

I had it done about 2 weeks ago. I'm thrilled with the results as my teeth were badly stained from drinking far too much coffee for many years and now they look good. The process won't give you Hollywood pearly whites, apparently that's done by attaching enamels but it will take your teeth back to their natural colour or close to it. The process took about an hour in the dental chair with a contraption in my mouth that reminded me of Hannibal Lecter. A bit of sensitivity for a few days after. I had to use a home kit for 10 days afterwards, like mouth guards that I put whitening cream into and then placed on my teeth for an hour or so each night. Easy to do while watching tv or reading.

I've been curious about this. At the end of the day, all I want is my teeth to stay in for as long as possible, and to work properly. They meet both these criteria at present. Is whitening bad for the teeth ? I didn't get it done using the bleach process, and I thought that putting bleach on the teeth didn't sound like a good thing. Yours, vainly
