I am performing with my troupe at a ren faire this weekend in period garb, and I was wondering if there are do's and don'ts for ren make-up. I know I need to make it sweat resistant/proof first and foremost, but as far as colors and whatnot goes, what can anyone suggest?

Hey have a great time! I do a lot of SCA dancing in period garb and I'd say it depends on where/when your garb is from. Look around on the net and find out what the make up looked like and re-create the look with modern make-up. Some of the looks that were popular then look really strange now, like the uni-brow look- oh so Persian! If you need it to stay put for a while through heat and sweat, I use that lip stuff that goes on with a color coat and a seperate sealing layer. It feels funny on, but it really stays. Also don't use real kohl if you don't like the smudged look. Natural looking fake lashes are nice and dramatic without being too out there. Don't do bindis for BD and those North African facial tatoos have very specific meanings, so don't go crazy drawing willy-nilly on your face with black eyeliner. When in doubt, do high contrast evening make-up look. It really depends on how authentic you want to be for your costume.
