Pilates post pregnancy?

Has anyone hired a private pilates instructor? I'm considering doing it for 5 weeks after my child is born to help get me back in shape. I've heard pilates is excellent for dancers (core strength, flexibility) but have not taken a class.

Any advice/comments?

I'm doing private pilates sessions now -- swapping them for private bd lessons. It's really great and I am noticing a difference in my body. Highly recommend!!

i haven't taken private lessons, but did use a prenatal pilates book during and after my first pregnancy and got good results. my abs in particular really seemed to bounce back to their pre-pregnant shape pretty quickly. this time around, i have pretty much just been walking and maybe doing occasional gentle torso isolations, my ligaments are so sensitive and stretchy - bleh. of course, after the baby gets here, i will be able to re-think that. (when is yours due? mine is august 29. or unbelievably soon!)

I started doing Pilates with dvds at home after i had my son and it probably gave me a nicer figure and than i had before my pregnancy and i got back a lot of flexibility.
The core conditioning is very helpful for any dancing you do and it gave me a better posture overall.
So i really recomend it.

Thank you all very much. My baby girl is due July 13 (Friday the 13th!); so only 4 weeks to go. I'm getting antsy to be able to do simple things again. You know, like tie my own shoes :). And once I've recovered enough from the birth I'd like to try pilates to get me going in the right direction for dance.

ooh, if she's born a day early, she'll have the same bday as my almost-3-year-old!

best wishes for the rest of the 4 weeks, if you are one of those rare give-birth-on-the-due-date people and it really is 4 instead of 3 or 5. and enjoy tying your own shoes 6 or so weeks before me. ;^D
