Inner thigh "pouches"
You know how when a woman gets out of adolescence and into the "child-bearing years," certain parts of the body suddenly get very, very stubborn about retaining their chub? Well, I recently turned 22, and while I have been trying to stay in shape and do my Suhaila exercises when I can, I find that I have these horrible little fat pouches on my inner thighs that do not want to go anywhere. They rub up against each other and feel gross when I wear a skirt, and they *look* gross when I wear Melodias, other dance pants or (god forbid) a bathing suit.
Anything I can do to get rid of them? I'd love to get a new pair of Melo-Phoenix pants at some point, but not if I'm going to look wobbly.

Other than getting a girdle? (or Spanx, which are just a more-comfortable new-fangled girdle)
Welcome to the wonder of genetics. Where your body choses to store fat is largely hereditary, and there are parts of your body that will continue to hold on to fat even when you're losing it elsewhere. Do your female relatives also have fat there?
Though I promise that a little extra padding on your inner thighs does not look nearly as obvious to other people as it does to you! No one else is thinking about how they look when you wear Melodias.

I don't know, because my mom always wears long shirts and bathing suits with a little skirt part. But my build is different from hers and my aunt's -- I'm much more with the hips and butt.

Another reason to try to distract them with fancy sword work. :D

Try 42.
I was always a Skinny Minnie right up through my 30's. When I was a kid and ate like a horse, my mom always warned me, 'You better be careful... that's going to catch up with you someday.' Always being boney & underweight I said, 'Bring it on!
Well, now I know the truth of that old adage 'Be careful what you wish for', because I've been battling my ever-expanding & more jiggly thighs & belly since I hit 40.

oh god. all I can say is that if you're complaining at 22 then you have a rude awakening ahead. I know that's no comfort to you now, but trust us - you get in your late 40s and you better just work with certain things.
Best advice is to exercise, be healthy and work out to keep your body strong. be consistent. I think the best exercise for inner thighs is that squishy abductor/aductor combo at the gym. that and good cardio - elliptical or running or treadmill.

The words "accept it and move on" spring irresistibly to mind. Seriously. You have a touch of fat at the tops of your thighs. So does 98 percent of the healthy female population. Eat well, exercise a bit, cut yourself some slack and love the body you have instead of angsting after somebody else's.
As my mother's cousin, who lost a leg in a childhood accident, used to say to her when she whined about having fat thighs, at least you've got two.

Zumarrad is right. Really, unless you point your thigh jiggle out to people, no one will notice.
Instead of stressing over your "flaws," use the old magician's trick of diversion--play up your gorgeous 22-year-old unwrinkled eyes, perky bust, flat belly--whatever you've got. Bright colors and a little sparkle where you *want* people to look works miracles!

I personally prefer shapelier legs over stick skinny ones.

Just about everyone has them...but for me, it's the SOUND they make during shimmies and such that is unbearable. Please tell me I'm not the only one whose thunder thighs slap together while dancing??
If you don't collect fat elsewhere and have already tried firming up the underlying muscles to no avail, perhaps try wearing little boyshorts (under your costume -- or under your Melos)? It's a lot cheaper than lipo!

I actually really like that little bit of extra meat there on the leg. I think it looks very womanly!

man, you should hear the sound of my butt/thighs during a shimmy! Wanna start a a cappella drum solo troupe, Kimahri?
I have a group of middle aged students ranging 30-60 something. They point out all the time that your body will do all kinds of strange stuff that nobody told you about when you get older. Things to enjoy for dancers under 40:
-your hands still have a bit off fat to fill them up. When you get older, you get scrawny wrinkled hands.
-you can get dark spots on your hands/face that are hard to hide.
-fat will be stored in other places and will probably never ever go away. Your waistline will slowly disappear.
By then I put on a cheerful arabic popsong and get them all in motion for some freestyle dancing. They are absolutely fantastic in improvised dancing and most of them can put their body issues aside and put a lot of emotion in their dance.
I like dancers with a bit of soft, jiggly fat. It's the way nature designed women.

my grandmother always says to keep an extra 10 pounds on so the fat will push out the wrinkles on your face and hands. ..

Kim, I still use your quote about the butt cheeks slapping together during a shimmy. "If you're not clapping, then the audience won't be either!"

I've just fallen off the chair laughing!
p.s. Mekyria laser is great for those little dark spots that appear...whips them away magically ...I got it done about 18 months ago and am going to go in for a 'top up' in a couple of weeks - no downtime and it works like magic

I would love to get laser, though mostly for the moustache/chin whiskers. I have some sun damage marks, as you'd expect for someone who spent all but four of 43 years in New Zealand. But I actually quite like the one on my nose.

You know what is odd though? I think they use different lasers for fur and different for the sun spots. Wouldn't it be great if it was an all in one deal <sigh>

I really hate the idea of lipo but that inner thigh area is one I would actually consider because of chafing (painful) problems. Lipo won't necessarily make it look better though although at 22 with skin in great shape it might work well.
Honestly, I don't think it looks bad but it is very uncomfortable and I'd frankly like a little more ventilation
I too am a member of the instrumental thigh slappers
